I would think with it’s tradition and fan support, UT (or the collectives) have the funds to attract some very good players in the portal. If we do, the question then becomes what happens to the players that thought they would be getting a lot more playing time next year but won’t because of the new players.
The off season will be interesting.
I stated that earlier and I think there will be some transfers if that happens

The question about transfers leads to what grade? Are we ok with having 1 and done girls at UT? And is that sustainable? I’ve said this before 1 underclassman. However to have impactful transfers they need to be older typically. Hard case I think

its a quick fix that you fall prey to if not immediately successful
And,
successful?
is still to be established in the "Big game" and then the tourneys

Her history at Louisville and her groundbreaking portal haul last year. Heck just bringing RJ here makes her great to me.

I know they've whiffed on 23 and that's alarming, but I'm pretty sure across WBB Sam has been considered a top recruiter. Which is why she was brought here.
Was it Sam who brought Jackson in or Kellie?

Jackson said relationship w Sam from her recruitment by Louisville, also liked and followed Joy fm hs recruitment days. Said KJH closed it out by showing up w Sam to visit for her bday last yr, which happens to be in March.

Pretty much how recruitment is supposed to work. Recruiters build the relationship, coach closes out. Kids seem to be impressed by unexpected personal gestures fm the head coach. I remember Powell saying the moment for her was when KJH showed up in person to pick her up fm the airport for her visit.

Begin now responding that the head coach close out hasn't happened since an impressive run last spring.

If I only had a nickel for every time Williams is called a "great recruiter" on this forum. Maybe if we say it enough times, recruits will actually start to believe it...
Definition of great is different for everyone. I’d settle for half of what she did at Louisville and move her into solid recruiter based on Tennessee history’s of great recruiters. We’ve had great recruiters here, she’s not one of them.

I have an idea:

Let's have a junior varsity (JV) team for the juniors, sophomores, and freshmen. They can play other JV's and small schools.

Then, we can have a varsity squad of 12 seniors and graduate students.

If a girl gets really hot on the JV, we can slide her up to Varsity.

Flying J will sign NIL deals with all 22-24 girls.

This program is once again at a crossroads. To my sorrow our present staff just seems to lack the ability to secure a well rounded group of players. With the many new players need I hope this staff can turn the corner. One or two only fair seasons more and there will be wholesale staff changes or the program will be back to being "just another has been".

Still - - excuses will not change the outcome of "average" team results. Many top teams suffer with injuries and other types of lost time by "key" players and stay in the mix at the very top. WE DON'T... We languish in the middle of the pack and always say "next year when everyone is healthy". The decision makers can't tolerate the luxury of "wait til next year". The idea of next year means that the ball starts to slow down and while waiting, with "hope" being the straw to rely on , will see the ball come to a stop. AND our university has with other sports seen what happens and what it takes to start the ball rolling again.

Which means she lets go of one. Who’s the weak link in recruiting? Gets uncomfortable when it’s your husband.
Based on what? To my knowledge, his job doesn't include direct recruiting.

Also, a player recently refered to him as "a second father". So the prejudice argument that a middle aged white guy can't relate is insulting and just wrong.

Our recent lack of ability to land elite recruits is obviously a serious problem, but blaming Jon is moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

All coaches have duties recruiting either on campus or off campus.

You’re reaching on this comment

“Also, a player recently refered to him as "a second father". So the prejudice argument that a middle aged white guy can't relate is insulting and just wrong”. Because that wasn’t the question asked. The statement was she needs to bring on an elite recruiter…which means you have to let go of one. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you believe she needs to bring on an "elite recruiter" why wouldn't you start with replacing the recruiting coordinator instead of a random assistant coach? I stand by my feeling that Jon is a sub punching bag for disdain toward Kellie just because he's her hubby and bc of his demographics.

Is he a random coach? 20 + years on staff isn’t random. I just stated one has to go, taking off the husband tag and looking at the full body of work subjectively he to me is the weakest coach. Full body includes recruiting and player development once on campus. Punching bag is to blame Sam or even Kellie (comes with the title) and letting Jon slide in recruiting. Do you believe he gets a pass for being a white male making six figures?

I give. Should never have gone down this rabbit hole again. yep fire Jon, fire Sam, fire em all. Then we'll definitely be FF material again.

If it were all only that simple.

Overhaul isn’t out of the question depending on how the season ends. Might get your wish, a little extreme but could be in play.
