Lady Vols beat a RANKED team in scrimmage

Evidently a secret scrimmage was not all that much of a secret. I think this team is talented mainly because of speed and athleticism. Spearman is 6'5" but she could play guard. Looking forward to the scrimmage exhibition tomorrow.
FYP before someone gets to ya! 😉 @lvocd

For any new fans unfamiliar with the distinction, think of a scrimmage as practice against another team where coaches agree to their own flexible rules for the scrimmage, can instruct referees to be especially diligent on certain calls (or call it very loose for a period), and (if agreed) can stop play to interact with their players or each other.

An exhibition is more like a dress rehearsal in a staged play--everything occurs just as it will on opening night. Even if you forget your lines and the scenery falls, you just have to keep going. Everything in an exhibition game is exactly as it would be for a real game--the calls, the clock, the rules. And most likely, so will the entire day's schedule for the coaches and players: morning workout, pregame meal, meetings, dressing, stretching, everything you want your players and staff to do on real game days.

The same goes for the visiting team, with the addition of getting on the bus, finding the visitor's locker room, the arena floor entrance, etc. (Poor Eagles might get spoiled by this exhibition experience!)

Didn't mean to insult anyone's intelligence; just aware that with our new coach we're going to attract a lot of new fans, and hopefully young fans.

same with Jillian,,,For a BIG, she handles the ball exceptionally in the open court or in an attack

Some folks made such a big deal about Coach Caldwell’s description of practice (horrendous start) and her former teams play in Nov. & Dec. but now are downplaying the outcome of the positive results and reaction on social media from the scrimmage against UNC.

Go figure.

Are we going to compare every phase of last year to this year or not? Or only when it’s convenient?

Because these few people talking about last year’s scrimmage are comparing apples and oranges.

96 points in a scrimmage is still 96 points.

And the full active roster did not play in this scrimmage.

There are a couple of lots right across frm the baseball field, near the old Stokley site that are free. Quick walk to TBA.

The LVs beat NC St, who turned out to be a final four team, last year in the secret scrimmage. Reportedly beat them handily. Then of course NC St turned out to end the LVs season months later. Take from all of it what you will.
No longer free. In fact, it’s a commuter lot for CI tag holders.

No longer free. Commuter lot. No parking without CI tag.

Agreed. Too many posters look at numbers out of context:

You do have to take these scrimmages with a grain of salt as they often have special rules that don’t apply to real games, such as unlimited fouls.

Also we don’t know any details about how the minutes were distributed. I imagine both teams ran a bunch of lineups that they won’t play when the games count.

That said, the previous two coaches would struggle to put up 96 points against air, so I am very interested to see how they look in their first televised action.

Well, at least you pointed it out nicely.

Why did you go off like that?

Now I have to point out your ignorance. If you were familiar with Special Ed's many, many posts you would know that his tongue was firmly planted in his cheek. I'm sorry if you've had a bad day, but don't vent it here, okay?
I don't live on here like many of you. I have a life. People should say what they mean. Otherwise, it is going to be misunderstood. Glad you were here to take up for your boyfriend!

Like I said before, it’s about to be a track meet at Food City Center!

I don’t think for the last several months the WBB fans and media realize the capability of this new LV roster and new coaching staff.

Exhibition or not playing in their first game together at a neutral site against a ACC team shows that as I stated before from those practice highlights this team is deep, athletic, and highly skilled.

Scrimmage or not I’m almost certain that UNC played to be competitive. Teams don’t just walk on the court and score 96 and 79 points respectively by default.

Second it shows that the offseason preparation was effective and that the team is in outstanding physical condition to score 96 points.

I’m sure that the chemistry still needs more work and time to develop so that offensive production in game 1 of the Coach Caldwell era was 50/50 based off of natural skills and instincts.

Meaning there are some high level scorers on this team that are going to cause havoc in the SEC.

GBO!
I love this take!! Scrimmage or not, UNC definitely played hard!

We had a secret scrimmage last year that everyone was told that we won by a sizable margin against North Carolina State, who we would again meet in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament which didnt turn out so well. That scrimmage was not indicative of what was to come for the rest of the season. A scrimmage is a scrimmage (Glorified practice). Wouldn't buy too much into it.

Thank you for the clarity and for returning us all back to earth. 🙄

This statement shows your ignorance. I am sure you are Special Ed, meaning you need need special assistance due to a mental disability!
Barnes is an awesome coach! UT is very fortunate to have him! It isn't Barnes fault that UT players shot 23% from beyond the 3pt line and 30% from the rest of the floor. Most teams lose most games with shooting percentages that low! Unless, they out rebound their opponent by a lot. UT also got less boards than IU! Get a clue!
If you are this abusive towards ED,,,I can't even imagine what your response will be towards our much loved "mudcat"
