Once victory was evident during World War I for the U.S. and its allies, patriotism soared. Sporting events became the perfect place for the song to reach audiences and promote U.S. allegiance and loyaltyAs soon as they stop politicizing sports we will be less likely to talk politics in here. I agree with you though. I just want to watch sports and enjoy sports.
I honestly don’t get why any nations anthem is played before a sporting event that doesn’t involve an international sporting event with players specifically/directly representing their country.
For example, the World Cup, Olympics, etc. vs. a little league baseball game is Greenville.
I mean I get that it’s our way of saying we “love” our country, but I can think of better ways to do that than playing a song before a sporting event.
It was the Oscar’s….. the host always roast all the guests…. If you don’t want to join in then don’t go.Spoken like someone that wants to trash Will Smith while giving the guy he slapped a free pass for a classless demeaning act. Maybe he will next find a Lady dealing with cancer and be looking forward to her remake of the movie Beaches, or a lady with Alzheimer's to make the first run Pat Summitt movie before her brain is ravaged. Those ought to get a laugh and make a bold statement about free speech. I am most saddened that Will seemed to find it funny till he looked across the table and saw the look on his wife's face.

I think they should have played the national anthem before/after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock, too. I wonder if that's why Will was crying right after he did it.Spoken like someone that wants to trash Will Smith while giving the guy he slapped a free pass for a classless demeaning act. Whole team full of people who don’t come out of the locker room for the national anthem. This is their stance for the entire year. I’m not giving a pass to any team or players that can’t see the opportunity they have been given in our country. They can go look for better opportunities elsewhere if they think it’s out there.Anyone who beats UConn is a-ok in my book!

Some traditions should be allowed to fall by the wayside. Playing the national anthem ain't one of them. I get what you are saying, but it would not be the same for me if they chose not to do it.I honestly don’t get why any nations anthem is played before a sporting event that doesn’t involve an international sporting event with players specifically/directly representing their country.

It said Louisville was out there (semifinal game). Every tourney game before that both teams did as USC and stayed in their locker rooms. Not sure about uconn game though, this was written prior to that.I thought I saw them out on the floor. Could be mistaken.
Try to avoid this story on a TV with more than 3 channels. I assure you I did not see it live. Those that don't value character and morals for a living are what they are. Bob Hope was a pretty funny guy that hosted back in the day and did not have to make fun of people with real issues outside their control, other than maybe height and heredity based hair loss. Looking forward to his show roasting all the guys with metal arms and legs they got while defending his country and his free speech rights. Gotta be some laughs there.
To be honest I would have preferred if Smith had walked up on stage, grabbed him by the collar and drug him back to the table and required him to apologize to his wife while on his knees. Can't believe they did not find his version of slapstick comedy funny. Or is that slap a dip stick?
It has zero to do with hate ...zero to do with the military as well before that is brought up...it's about people wanting their country to be better.Exactly, Those people are free to move to other countries that hates this country.
It’s a good thing you weren’t invited to the Oscar’s bc you don’t seem capable of handling a joke…. You might have some anger management issues as well.Try to avoid this story on a TV with more than 3 channels. I assure you I did not see it live.
