Lady Vols Softball Team Game Thread at Arkansas

One possible batting option I haven't seen Ralph use is to put Holcomb back at the top of the line up and move Leach down lower in the order and let her swing the bat and drive the ball.

I did not get to see any of the game at all. If the field was watered too wet then that is sad and I have seen that before many times. I do know it Geer left too soon or not either but there is such a thin line between a good jump and a leave too early it is difficult. I do know throughout Geers career she does that I would bet more than anyone else has ever done. Thought the defense would be a lot better this year and it still may be but I don't know yet. JMHO

Right now not really hitting the ball very well. If we can't hit the right handed pitchers of Arkansas then we are in big trouble as the year progresses. When Leach and Vines do nothing we are in huge trouble plus we need a power hitting first baseman that is consistent. Tough loss big game today Moss was off all game but only one huge mistake which gave us a chance if we score runs.

My lineup

Leach 2b
Vines 1b
Geer rf
Gregg ss
Seggern 3b
Weimer DH
Lockman c
McClain cf
Holcomb lf

Would like to get an extended look at Weimer MAC rookie of the year last season at Buffalo hit 12 homers and had 49 RBI's. I think McSwain's had her look need to give another power player a few bats.

As I mentioned on this site several days ago, this ain't your daddy's Arkansas team. It will be a real dogfight (hogfight?) for the LV's to win 2 of 3. This year's edition of the Lady Vols looks as ordinary as dishwater. I'm predicting a struggle to end up in the top half of the conference.

Arkansas is improved but Tennessee should still win 2 out of 3.....which I expect them too

Agreed Weimer came through but as of right now I like rowland at first she got us the hit yesterday...Weimer replaced McSwain as the first bat off the bench...if rowland struggles then Vines goes to first Weimer to DH

You know most everyone thinks the hitting will come around and I hope it does but we are far enough in the year it needs to happen!! I know the team is young and all of that but I am not sure it will be a lot better. I know that the slappers have got to get on base but someone has to help Gregg and Geer drive the ball. Very disappointed in Lockman and Rowland and Scarlett is the same as last year. As armchair said we have and will continue to suffer for the lack of quality pitchers these last few years. Moss and Arnold are young too but they are hardly overpowering. The team seems to be in a rut. JMHO

Agree. They had 4 hitters in lineup yesterday who can not hit a lick then the 1st 4 hitters who usually hit a lick did not smell the ball yesterday .That adds up to a loss when there is underwhelming pitching.Course the coming off 1st base early out cost them a run and the throw out at the plate ( great play by Ark left fielder ) also cost a run.

Hope they win next two....we shall see ....because this team has very little margin for error with the way they are both hitting and pitching right now.

My thinking was that we would be able to score runs but that now seems in doubt. Players like Rowland, Lockman, McSwain, and others have to do a lot more. Those players have been nothing more than singles hitters and consistently hover between .280 and .300 batting average. They have to hit with power because none have any remarkable speed and if they can't drive in runs were headed for many losses in the SEC. We don't expect Gregg to be able to save us every game and she didn't even get the chance in the last inning last night.

Let's get the bats going today. 4 runs is not a lot to give up in an SEC game we have to score more than that and I think we will today.

Yeah it was watered down pretty badly.

Don't give up a bunch of walks and/or a home run ball and should be ok today.

Arnold shaky 1st inning aided by the throwing error by Leach but looks solid in the 2nd. Geer only one that has a hit so far.

Bottom of the 3rd and Arnold gets two outs, then inexplicably gives up a walk, then can't handle a routine grounder back to her dropping it and losing it between her feet, then hits the next batter, and suddenly the bases are loaded. Next batter goes to 3 and 1 and Arnold blows one by her to go full count then blows another by her to strike her out and end the inning. Weird.

Lockman is swinging for the fences. She just needs to see the ball, keep her hands level, and swing through the ball. There is too much movement in her swing. Learning the pitcher's patterns would help also. She gets fooled too often.

1-2-3 inning for Arnold helped by Lockman's throwout of a walked batter stealing 2nd and Vines' diving grab in left. Legal catch even though Arkansas coach challenged it.
