Lady Vols Softball

I am surprised Hemphill only has 9 home runs.

It's because nobody will pitch to her. She has 42 walks. Kind of reminds me of Shipman's senior year. She wound up with like 15 HRs or so, I think, but had like 50 walks. She probably could've had at least 30 HR that year had she actually seen good pitches. The Weeklys moved her up to the leadoff position later in the year because her OB% was through the roof.

Bama's softball program is the only program at that school I can stand. Murphy has always been classy and so have their players. I openly rooted for them in 2012 vs. OU. I remember when we beat them in 2013 in the SRs they were talking about how classy our program was and were very respectful and gracious.

Nope. Not sorry.

Ashley Rogers answered the bell in today's game. She'll go down as 1 of the Best of the Lady Vols pitcher.

Honestly she reminded me a lot of Ellen Renfroe early on but she's much tougher mentally. Don't get me wrong, Ellen is an all-time great and a two time AA, but I remember how much she struggled her senior year when she was the clear ace after Ivy left, and she tended to be feast or famine; when she was on she was dominant but when she wasn't she'd get lit up. She benefited from with the exception of her sophomore year, having much better offenses than what Ashley has, so she could get away with not being completely on, not to mention she had Ivy there for three of her four years. Ellen also had a great riseball and was probably more of an all-around more versatile pitcher (she had a better change up than Ashley and a better drop ball), but there's something to be said when you have a clear cut go-to strikeout pitch, and Ashley throws the ball harder while managing to have more movement. She doesn't throw as hard as Ivy who was consistently between 68-71 mph, but in many ways Ashley is basically a hybrid between the Renfroe sisters, and TBH, she has one of the best riseballs I've ever seen in college softball. She's a similar pitcher to Erin Gabriel, and essentially she's what Erin could've been without injury issues and had she been more consistent.

It looks like the same umpiring crew is doing all the games, but rotating positions. All three suck, BTW.

I'm sure we'll get Ron Alexander behind the plate tomorrow against Bama at home because that's UT luck. WTBS, the other two aren't much better.

I think Fouts is fast but they seem to juice the gun for her. When we play earlier they had Fouts in the 70’s a lot but Ashley was supposedly throwing in the low sixties.

she played little league softball where I live in wv and she throw 58 mph at 9 yrs old. She does throw pretty hard but I think if she backed off a little she would be more effective with dome movement

They had Herzog’s fast stuff around 70, too.

It seems to me Fouts throws about as hard as Ivy Renfroe did, so upper 60s to low 70s seems accurate. She doesn’t throw as hard as Monica Abbott or Kelly Barnhill, though, who are the two hardest throwers I can recall.

It is a crowd that has the ability to change an umpire's mind....it is unbelievable to see clear balls being called strikes and vice versa

The Lady VAWLS play today at 5:30 in the semi finals of the SEC women's tournament against Bama....game will be at 5:30 on ESPN 2 if i'm not mistaken......There might be a great storyline here especially after the lady VAWLS were on the bottom half of the SEC rankings...Like to see them with the concept of "them against the world" just like the 08 georgia men's basketball team did down n Atlanta!

Of ALL the darn games for me to have to miss, I did NOT get to tune in for yesterday's epic win. But ohhhh yeah, I'll definitely be watching next time the Lady Vols lay an egg on the field -- hopefully sometime next season! I never miss those.

Do the Lady Volunteers need to win the SEC Tournament this season or next season in order for White to give the Weekleys a contract extension?

Missed one of the great pitching performances under the circumstances in Lady Vol history.
