Well Washington has now put up 10 runs wouldn’t Ashley kill for that? Seeing a lot of these multiple run come backs which means you have to have multiple good at bats together. Our hitting was way too much a good at bat here and there doesn’t lead to much multiple run production. She’s hanging in there. I don’t know how much longer she will go. If Washington keeps it within 2 runs, I think Tarr will go with her to final out.
Rogers was ridden too hard in the regular season and put up wet too many times thus injuries that led to not being able to pitch as effectively as she is capable of doing.I said before the season that if a 2nd pitcher that could win games at the SEC level was not developed this team could not go very far in the post season. They appear to sign some very good pitching prospects every year but can not seem to develop them.....or the scout was poor to begin with.Whatever ,there was only one effective pitcher on the squad this year and that is not a recipe for success when you play three or four games in a two day time frame against stiff competition in NCAA tourney.....the algebra does not work health wise. Not if Rogers can’t take it to another level.
Their only real chance to win the Regional was to stay in the winners bracket so Ashley could gets some rest and recovery time before the finals.
I'm sure its many reasons but the coaching staff has struck out, yes a poor pun, on their evaluation of pitchers the last couple of years or they were pitchers with issues that no one else wanted to take a chance on but Weekly's took a chance on them as it was the best they could get at the time. Something not right.

Everyone talks about the finger but she has back issues too. Plus in Karen's press conference she bascially for lack of a better term threw Ashley under the bus. Said they had "rested her in SEC play by only throwing her two games a weekend." She also said the plan was for Ashley to throw every pitch and she didn't do it. Alexander hit the wall on Sunday but their second pitcher stepped in and save it for them in that first game. What Karen didn't mention was the bad errors extending innings and pitches and the offense not being able to get more than two decent at bats back to back so every pitch has stress. In MLB those are called high stress pitches and they take a toll far more than pitch count. We all know the lack of depth behind her and have said as much in regards to the recruiting of pitchers. With that said, it was mentioned in the JMU game in reference to Rogers that "elite pitchers" find a way. I'm a Ashely fan but with all that has gone on with not having a true 2-3 and the finger issue that comment stood out. The day before JMU pitcher threw 160 in extra innings and came out an touched 69MPH all game long, that was taking it to the next level. We go as Rogers goes unfortunately because our offense gets a pass because the focus was shifted to the circle.
Walking out of the first game Saturday a JMU fan was saying she was so excited about beating us that she was not going to be able to sleep. I said to her you all are going to win the regional, she replied are you serious? I said dead serious. They may not beat Missouri but I would not be shocked at all if they did. They have pitching, defense, coaching, and enough offense to beat anyone but the top tier teams that have all that and more.Guys, did JMU win the local series yesterday? They looked like a real contender.

Washington has super pitcher Plain but she fell apart one inning and gave up 5 runs but they came back and scored a ton more. You have to step up and help even the best pitchers on offense sometimes. So Kentucky and Washington came out of the loser's bracket to win their regionals. Kentucky beat ND twice after being run-ruled by them in their Saturday game against them. Washington lost to Michigan on Saturday and beat them twice yesterday to advance.
It's amazing what good coaching and mental toughness will do for a team. Outside of ASU, no seeded team performed as poorly as we did. I would add Duke but they were on the road and shouldn't have been seeded anyway.
Ashley would've been rested for JMU, boosting the odds of keeping us out of the loser's bracket.
What?? Surely you jest or you are ignorant of UTs athletic budget. They have the resources. They have the facilities. They aren’t getting it done.
What I remember most of the championship games with Abbott pitching, was Ralph having his eyes closes, as if he could not stand to watch what was happening...The TV announcer pointed it out several times....Those games, with Abbott in the circle, were the high water marks of the Weekly's reign here...Seems like a hundred years ago.
Everyone calling Liberty mid-major, there is nothing mid-major about their softball facilities. Our stadium is nice but could use more seating. Like everything on campus somewhat land locked but with the money being key capacity could be increased with other things being added. The railroad tracks add charm the sewer plant not so much. It's not an excuse because they still have enough to be more productive than they were, but I think you'd be very surprised at where exactly UT stands when it comes to softball facilities in this conference. Both stadium and practice/team facilities. White does need to commit to upgrades to the facility or we'll fall further behind. But that is unrelated to the issues this season.
Believe me, the softball program was an afterthought...Everyone calling Liberty mid-major, there is nothing mid-major about their softball facilities. Our stadium is nice but could use more seating.
