The Lady Vols blew Chattanooga completely out. They kept turnovers down to 14 which is respectful. Free-throw shooting was absolutely horrible at 55% going 11 out of 20 attempts. If they do not improve on free=throw shooting, this will eventually cost them a win. Maybe they need an outsider specialist to come in and work with them on free-throws. Ideally free-throw shooting should be around 75%.

Looks like were going to have to win without making 70 percent of free throws. Sure we'll have games where we shoot them better than this one. Probably have more when we shoot like this as well.

Bad free throw shooting in a blowout game tends to point the finger at focus as the problem. I'm sure at the individual level, finding a solution is more complicated than that. But ultimately, I think it returns to some aspect of focus.

I'm curious if the current research posits that shooting free throws accurately under no stress (in practice or a blowout game), and making them under extreme stress (when the game or season is on the line) are considered two sides of the same challenge, or if they require two different mental skillsets?

If you compare a free throw to a six-foot putt, what drops consistently on the practice green becomes a different monster when hundreds of thousands of dollars or your PGA card is on the line. I'm inclined to believe performing under pressure is better preparation for performing in the absence of pressure, than visa-versa. What do you coaches believe?

Bad free throw shooting was a problem for one player tonight. Not the team.

I mean they shoot 59% for the season, so yeah that's a pretty good bet. It's not like tonight was just a fluke off night. You would have hoped the problem would have improved at least some heading into conference season, but here we are...

For those of you who were worried about this game tonight, you shouldn't have been. Our Mocs women's team has fallen very far from the days where we actually beat the Lady Vols a couple of times, including Holly's first game as a head coach. The Mocs are terrible, plain and simple. I am both a Mocs and Vols/Lady Vols fan - all sports including women's basketball - (hence the VN nickname) and I am very happy that Kellie is doing well as head coach. I must say I had my doubts even though she was on the staff at UTC for a while.

Looking forward to the bowl game this Thursday and hope to be there if I can find some good seats at a reasonable price!

Go Mocs! Go Vols! Go Lady Vols!

The team shot FT's well tonight. One player didn't. Stop being a drama queen, please.

On pace to be worst shooting team ever ...

I’m not sure how pointing that this a team isn’t good at FTs is “being a drama queen”. The stats don’t lie. The only player that’s a good FT shooter and gets meaningful minutes and actually gets to the line is Puckett. Horston, Dye, Key, Green and Walker are all subpar-to-bad from the FT line.

Miles has not shot many but is 70%. Her 3 point shot is coming along as well. She really seems to be working on it. Her form and lift seem much better than at the start of the season.

That’s why I said “actually gets to the line”. She’s only shot seven FTs. Darby hasn’t shot any.

Actually it was two players. In addition to Wynn’s 1 of 6, Walker was 1 of 3.

Walker is one that really needs to hit them at a better clip. If she could hit at least 65% it would help a ton. She does tend to get fouled but does not finish well from the line. Her shot looked particularly off this evening.

The future is bright for our freshmen. We have Brooklyn harrassing opposing guards for miles, Karoline strippin' the boards, Sara filling up the bucket, and Kaiya driving in for the win. Recipe for championships.

And next year Pissot will arrive just in time to create a consistent three-point threat.

I feel this is a whole lot of the problem. When you watch the ladies, most seem to more or less "nonchalantly" flip up the shot. I like to see a shooter take time to breath, aim and carefully fire up the shot. They seem to do this more "when the chips are down" late in games. It would be interesting to see side by side videos of the ladies taking shots early and late in games. (especially close games)
