Lamarcus Coker (Merged)

The average is majorly skewed by the huge run, but it would have been a good night for him either way.

Rush: L. Coker (TENN) 8-146, 1 TD

Thats 18.3 yds/carry.

As I said earlier this week, great of the coaching staff to let some guy prove his skills after the Florida game. Why we did not get him in the UF game except for a trick play, I don't get it.

Time to through the politics out of the window and let the boy run. He has proven himself and was the reason, that we were able to blow the game wide open !

Coker looked good, but I think that until we figure things out on the o-line, we could put Bo Jackson back there and he'd have trouble.

Hasn't that been missing from UT's offense for a several years now? Someone who could break off long runs? Seemed like in 2003 the longest run from scrimmage was like 30 yds.

For the year: 10.5 yds/carry (19 for 199 yds)

hmmm so who do you start at RB. The guy averaging 4-5 yds/carry or the guy averaging almost 10-11 yds/carry.

You definitely have to give Coker his carries now.

He's proven he can run it, and he didn't fumble. Let the boy play. The other backs will still have to play for protection, and keeping legs fresh... but L.C. deserves his carries.

You're definitely right about that. It's been awhile since we've had a guy who could turn 8-10 yard carries into big plays.

That was the third longest run in UT history. The longer ones were in 1970's and the 1920's. Yes, it is time for the Coker Jets. Smooooking! :worship:

I remember a few years ago sitting in the student section, in about the 3rd or 4th game of the year, and watching a freshman Vol RB wow the crowd by running for 200+ yards. It was the first game in which he had seen action--he was reported to have problems with fumbles in practice as well as difficulties in picking up blocks. But after that game, everyone knew he was special. The year was 1997...you guys know the RB as NFL 2000+ yd rusher Jamal Lewis.

I know that they have completely different running styles, but I can't help but note the similarities in the way that the coaches didn't think they were starting material--only to be proven wrong on game day.

In the past he seems to have been fumble prone, but I was telling my brothers tonight as we watch PPV early in the game I wish they would put Coker in.After tonight,he might be just what the doctor ordered, maybe we can begin to keep some defenses honest.

I didn't realize that Barry Sanders had his name changed to Jamal Lewis.

Kind of makes me wonder what the UF outcome would have been if Coker had a chance to run the ball. Never know..

He COULD have run all over them... then again, he COULD have fumbled the game away.

Could ya'll see the difference in Hardesty and Coker in today's game? Hardesty seemed like he wanted to dance and Coker was the more aggresive, he hit ever hole fast and didn't dance. Hardesty just needs to slow down and just rely on his vision.....seems like he wants to do to much.

Fumbling aside, could it have been much worse? From what I saw of him tonight, he protected the ball as well if not better than Hardesty.

When you have that kind of athlete, it's a total waste having him on the sidelines when he could be a game changer.

Oh well, his 89 yard run was a breath of fresh air. He just burnt every defender on that field.

Hardesty would be a force if he'd just pick a hole, and lower his head into it. He's got great size, he just dances way too much. Good call.

I think the thing with Coker is, he gets to the hole so fast he has no other choice but to hit it.
