Here is some more on the suspension:
Fulmer also announced to the players before practice and to members of the media afterward that sophomore tailback LaMarcus Coker has been suspended indefinitely from the squad for a violation of team rules.
LaMarcus is a good person, Fulmer said. He has been working diligently to get through a medical situation that goes back a ways, but that doesnt excuse where we are at this point and what brought us to this point.
Its been an ongoing process and its always hard. Sometimes you get young people who are not necessarily individuals you want to be around. LaMarcus is not one of those guys. Hes a good person and hes got some issues were trying to get through.
Fulmer added that although it takes a good player out of the tailback rotation behind starter Arian Foster, somebody else immediately gets the chance to fill that reserve role.
No one person is bigger than the program, he said. Like weve always done, were going to treat each individual case on its own. But there are policies and procedures they must follow and if they dont follow them, they are not going to be part of the program, whether it is indefinitely or permanently.
LaMarcus has responded each time in a good way and Im hopeful he will do that this time. He was very hurt today, very remorseful, very regretful, with a lot of tears. But now he has to take care of himself from a personal standpoint and every other way. This is not just football. Its about life and being a person that is a productive father and citizen.
This has me all confused. And, no Teddy, it isn't guaranteed that Coker is out for Cal. Fulmer points it out that he may be back very soon.
