"You gotta have a full time piece to have a side piece and I ain't got either ******* one."
We tried the first two episodes, but it:s just not that funny. Tulsa King is a lot better written.
It’s not a comedy.

And I love Tulsa King (like all Sly fans), but it is NOT better written. Sheridan obviously has to write around Stallone and there’s some fun cringe as a result.

Big fan of Tulsa King and you're right, its not better written. He just throws in a few meaningful words between fawk and got dam in Tulsa King. Opposite in Landman. Lol.

I binge watched it over the weekend. I enjoyed it for the most part. Mostly because of John Hamm and Billy Bob. The boy who plays BBT's son "Cooper" did a really good job too. I liked the guy who was BBT's roommate as well (Nathan, I think). With the exception of Demi Moore's character, and maybe the waitress at the local bar, I found pretty much all the female characters to be unlikeable and terrible distractions to the show. I know Ali Larter (hubba hubba btw,) who plays the ex wife is supposed to provide some comic relief, but I mostly find her character irritating. The Mexican lady who plays the widow is alright, but I found that whole plot point with her and Cooper to be completely ridiculous! Plus, I don't know what it is with Taylor Sheridan shows but my god is he in love with the "F" bomb! I feel like every episode is like watching Scarface!

A lot of the episodes felt like nods to some of BBT's previous work. Lines used in previous movies, references like Odessa Permean and going to the Permean B&W game, etc. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Lucas Black shows up in season 2 in some capacity. I even noticed that at the nursing home, one of the old ladies was the woman who played the grandmother in the Friday Night Lights TV show.

I'm watching it but I'm kinda hate-watching it. I couldn't stick with Yellowstone. Quit after one season. I've watched a couple episodes of Lioness. It's OK. I'm still here on Landman because it's BBT.

People love Sheridan, but I'm not there. Wind River was amazing. Sicario is one of my favorite movies. But the TV shows don't exactly work for me. IDK what it is...part of it is that it's over-dramatized. I know that most dramas are, but they're not supposed to feel that way.* Also, the dialog is over-written. Everybody always has the perfect quip and it takes me out of it. BBT can pull that off, but for other actors it's not that easy. The storylines and themes are fun, at least.

*
Like everything about the son's storyline. Multiple life-altering accidents witnessed in his first couple weeks on the job. There's gun play on the job and people tolerate it, even against the boss's son. He's been beaten half to death by co-workers. WTF is happening? LOL. It's so silly.
How can you not love a show that on the first episode the main character says" buck fama"

It’s weirding me out that Matt Saracen’s sweet little grandma with dementia issues is on this show talking about dicks and dropping f bombs. I wasn’t ready for that .

My favorite line in the whole show is when Billy Bob's character is talking to his daughter and says "honey, you're going to tell me you're still a virgin until the day you die! And if you ever have kids, you're going to tell me you were artificially inseminated!" LOL! I don't have a daughter, but if I did I'd imagine having a similar conversation with her!

I can already tell where the story is going with Aynsley's new boyfriend. She has talked him into stripping for all those grandmas. He's going to do it, somebody is going to record it on their phone and release it on TikTok, and he's going to get his scholarship pulled from Tech. Hide and watch!

What happened with the first BF who was lying about playing for Saban? WTH happened with that loose end? I thought for sure that was a detail leading somewhere. So weird.

Also, why the hell was BBT one way with the sexually active first BF, and then freaks the f*** out with violence on the 2nd one for no reason.

Such weird writing.

Daughter said she wouldn’t sleep with him and he bolted. Tommy smelled some bs with his Saban name dropping too. Loose end tied.

His wife wasn’t there in the first instance. She talked him down in this most recent episode. They’re both learning how far the other will bend.

Known a few people from that neck of the woods. Not arguing it doesn’t translate everywhere and I would’ve never allowed my daughter to have sex under my roof…she knew to respect me by sneaking. But it’s REALISTIC writing.

I don't know about that. I think the plot point with Cooper hooking up with the widow of the guy who died in the explosion, 3 weeks after it happened is a beyond ridiculous premise. That sh_t moved WAYYYY too fast!

TV time vs real time. It is about $$$$ and viewership. If they drag out the courting phase we would have months of fillers and lost interest in viewing it because it was dragged out.

Going by her scene with Tommy, I think the gist is she liked her husband but wasn’t in love with him.

It's a loose end because it was never handled. BBT should be freaking out about the bald-faced lie to his daughter. He didn't even hold his feet to the fire on it, and this level of dishonesty should result in a breakup.

Yes, he makes a rule that they can't sleep together in his house, but he knows they are sexually active, and lets it slide. Beats on the other kid because they were in a truck together. It makes no sense.

What needed to be “handled”? Horn dog jock wanted to get with a high school girl and took off when he got rebuffed. Problem solved without having to bury him. What story arc did you think was upcoming? He was going to start his own oil company?

His rule thinking she was only visiting. Adjusted when his ex came back into his life. He roughed up the new kid when he was grinding on his daughter and had not even previously met him. Now they’re dating and he’s making peace with the mother of his child. Confused on what you’re confused. 🤨

Who said anything about giving it a whole story arc?

Let me explain something about writing. Characters are supposed to do things that make sense, and they're supposed to be fairly consistent. BBT is a no-BS hardass and letting that lie go does not make sense for a no-BS hardass. You kick the guy out of truck right then, or you don't include that Saban bit in the show. No story arc needed. They could have also made it the reason she breaks up with him back at the house after he has a private talk with her. It's sloppy writing, whether or not you're confused by my calling it out.

What Dad is letting that lie go, especially this character? Would you let that fly with your daughter?

Well you should tweet Sheridan and give him some pointers so he can maybe make a living out of the craft. 😏

You’ve really taken a dude lying to impress a girl personally. Her dad knew it was bolsch but maybe because he works with a bunch of men it’s not so shocking to the point of requiring physical retribution. Once again makes perfect sense to me and this show bests his previous opus in The Mayor of Kingstown. Everything “believable” and well written. I’ll watch and you continue to post about not doing so.

She brought the one dude with her as her boyfriend, her mom asked Tommy if he'd seen their daughters boyfriend. There was a relationship established.

This other dude she just met. Ali was freaked out and sent Tommy out to find her. He found her in the back of a truck with some guy on top of her.

It all makes sense to me, but I obviously suck at watching tv.

You’re saying EVERY DAD reacts the same? And that’s “believable” to you? 🤔

Why does that matter? Because they've been ****ing, it's OK that they keep ****ing? The Mom gave no endorsement of the boyfriend. In fact, she was concerned, so it makes no sense that he gets a pass.

It's a little weird to be two completely different kind of Dads with each guy. He literally says, "No man alive is allowed to lay on top of my daughter." except I guess, that other guy.

I also don't understand this kid at all. Why wouldn't he retailiate against a skinny old man cheap shotting you? And say you're not the kind of kid to fight back, what kid would have any interest in her after that BS? It's over at that point.

Nobody acts like this IRL.

You spend more time arguing crap you don't like than anybody I know. Lol.

Yes. It's okay because they already were. Again, that was her boyfriend. Tommy told Ali they were fawking and she said she knew it. I'm not sure how this isn't real to you.

No endorsement? Lol she said she'd fawk him.

It all seems normal to me.
