Lane Kiffin

LK is a reason why we gotten into the shape we’re in now.

It resulted in Hamilton hiring Dooley.

Mike Hamilton pinching pennies by removing Kiffin's buyout just to get Kiffy under $2MM a year is what got us into the shape we are in.

If Hamilton wasnt incompetent and had a reciprocal buyout for Kiffin, USC wasnt going to hire Kiffy.

Not to mention that Hammy had not 1, but 2, chances to hire Patterson but didnt for just a few hundred thousand dollars because Kiffin and Dooley were slightly cheaper.

Don’t blame Kiffin. Blame Hamilton. Kiffin was not qualified for the TN job in 2009. Instead of hiring Patterson, Hamilton hired they loser Kiffin. Then he hired another loser.

Kiffin was qualified but he was hired because he was the cheaper option.

Hammy wanted the HC hire to be under $2MM. Patterson wouldnt take that and Kiffin would (once Hammy removed the reciprocal buyout provision).

Again, we had another shot at Patterson again in Jan 2010 but Dooley was chosen since Patterson cost a few hundred thousand K more than Dooley

Kiffin leaving the way he did - and as late in the recruiting timetable as his did - is almost completely responsible for why we are where we are. You can attribute in a direct line the horrors of the last decade to his leaving the way he did.

That said, I was loudly advocating for his hire when the coaching debacle reached ridiculous levels this last go round. He was at least a proven coach who you knew could recruit and scheme around your deficiencies. Instead, we have an SEC talented team with a QB who couldn't start on my kids flag football team. Meanwhile, Kiffin takes Ole Miss and immediately has them at competitive with the best team in the country.

Coach Cornbread better coach up Bailey before his extension looks as ridiculous as it does right now.

I was very pro Kiffin coming back the minute our search was rumored to be interviewing Brohm and Doeren. Then Lane did what he does and makes headlines with the Rumors saying he had Sexton offer UT Lane, Tee Martin, and kevin Steele as a package.

I loved the Pruitt hire. His path to head coach is similar but longer than that of Kiffin. I would always love to see Kiffin wind back up at Tennessee. However, something tells me he is at Ole Miss for a long time because Arch Manning is a sophomore in high school and will definitely go to Ole Miss under Kiffin. Solidifying Manning’s commitment was prolly a big reason for Kiffin’s hiring at Ole Miss. Of all the names available, Manning family knew best coach they could realistically hire to be able to build the roster 2-3 years before Arch arrives on campus and that’s Kiffin

Well, Arch isn't headed to Tennessee with what we've shown with our ability to develop QB talent under Pruitt. That's my point: his inability to recruit JG's replacement is why we are where we are. We can beat the scrubs, but get pummeled with against good teams.

Pruitt was a dart throw hire. UT is a big enough job where the coach doesnt need to be learning on the job.

Pruitt has done some good but he's also showed he's still very inexperienced in running a program at times.

Scored 28 so far on Bama and almost 400 yards offense. Much better at offense than Jim Chaney.

Let’s be honest, Chaney has churned/developed top QB’s everywhere he has been. I think we all know JG is capable of playing lights out but his mental game is shot and toast.

While Pruitt is ultimate decider on Jg continuing to play, I’m not gonna judge Chaney’s capabilities on JG when we’ve literally seen his work in last ten years churning out solid QB’s.

I also think people are smoking dope thinking there’s a scenario where Arch has any chance of coming to Tennessee

Also we have a “franchise QB” in Bailey. We just have to be very careful on rolling him out. Sure Tua and Trevor Lawrence showed out from Day 1, but that’s generational. Throw in a pandemic and shortened season, we have to get Bailey right. I do think time has come to shelf JG and ride with Maurer/Shrout/Bailey

You don’t know what Bailey is until he actually plays.

Which is exactly why you don’t throw him to the wolves vs UGA. I’d rather rock with him or Maurer vs UK next week. JG has topped out. He has nothing else to show. Might as well let a QB who will be on our roster next year get experience now. Pruitt isn’t losing his job this year given the pandemic and shortened season. But we can’t roll into 2021 with starter being fresh or minimal playing experience

Not disagreeing with you entirely but no qb on our roster was gonna be better than JG today with the O line play and play calling.

I'm watching Lane Kiffin's Mississippi team out scheme Alabama's defense handily (so far) and I'm regretting that Tennessee wouldn't even talk to him 3 years ago after we fired Botch. I know his leaving was shameless but the reality was that he had to make last second decision after Carroll left/was fired by USC and USC was his "dream job" after all. I'd imagine many of us would have done the same. As I recall Lane in his only year here had Alabama "on the ropes" and only lost the game due to 2 blocked field goals, the second of which was on the last play of the game and he did this with a depleted, talentless team that included 2 walkons (the Sullins) on the OL. I have NO DOUBT that Lane would have a better record than Pruitt at this point and he certainly wouldn't be starting JG at QB. I do like CJP and I believe he will improve once he sees the light on JG but I will forever regret we didn't give Lane a second chance.

I would have put in Maurer or Shrout the minute UGA went up 9. At that point, the air was let out of our team and defense was toast. Only way we stayed in it was have offense go out and do something and spark the team. JG was incapable of doing that

How many times do people have to see this movie? Other than the relatively obscure job at FAU, Kiffin comes in and generates a bunch of excitement with some gimmick or other. Then it blows up.

The guy is eventually toxic.
