Lane Kiffin's #1 ranked recruiting class

Not saying he will but if Kiffin fails at USC I have a feeling you are going to get blasted by all the orange koolaid drinkers. Not that I think you care but it is going to be non stop.
Want to bet if the USC thing goes bad Kiffin still ends up with a good job?

I don't think that if USC goes sour that he gets another HC gig for a while. Teams will probably come calling for him as an OC

It will be interesting to see what kind of calls he gets if the USC thing goes bad and Monte finally retires.

I think at that point it would be NFL OC or college mid major HC jobs.

the sanctions do give him a built-in excuse that might help him land another HC job ... w/o daddy it will be tougher to get one though

Walk-ons pay their own dime and therefore do not count against the scholarship limit. They typically play two or three or more years and earn a scholarship toward the latter part of their playing career. USC historically gets an inordinate number of high quality walk-ons. That is why they sign such small recruiting classes. The cream of the walk-ons get the held-over scholarships.

So during their 3-yr reduction period, USC will not be hurt as much as most programs because of their potent walk-on program. This will effectively reduce the bottoming out part of the curve when the effects of the scholarship reductions start showing up in a couple of years. That is if the USC walk-on program remains strong and other factors do not start a domino effect.

That was the point that was being made...read the post again as well the post that was being responded to knucklehead...lol...couldn't resist a shot at your sig.

Read my post again. With only 15 scholarships, their program will be hurt for awhile no matter how good their walk-ons are. But, for conversation, here's a small list of walk-ons who didn't contribute much at all in 2009. Prove me wrong, but I don't think you can. And what other programs are you referring too? Take a look at Alabama, it took them a long time to get back to where they are now after their sanctions.

Bolstering the
quarterback corps is untested redshirt freshman walk-on John
Manoogian. A group of walk-ons who have yet to catch a pass fill out the
wideout unit: juniors Sean Calcagnie, Preston Cavignac, Joe
Gibson, Scott Stephens and Spencer Vigoren, sophomores Kit
Barmeyer and Drew Ness and redshirt freshmen Steve Blackhart
and Robbie Boyer

They said that the NCAA said juniors and senior could....NCAA really didn't say anything about freshman being exempt in transferring

Guy's been the head coach of the Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Vols, and SoCal Trojans.

He makes millions of dollars per year. Wife's a knockout.

How's he the type of person who fails at everything?

The Kiffin name has definitely opened up some doors for him. Im not sure you can consider that success though. That's just coattail riding in my opinion.

Being a millionaire at the age of what 31 is pretty impressive regardless of what your last name is.

Al didn't want Monte coming to Oakland but he still hired Lane.

Al sure knows how to hire top notch coaches. Im sure Paris Hilton would still be just as famous without her last name. Its all about who you know.

How do you think he got his foot in the door for coaching in the first place. I'm sure Monte never had to pull some strings for him......

How did Derek Dooley get in with Saban? Could it be that Vince and Nick are buddies?

You can't hold it against Lane that his dad is a HOF DC. I'm sure Monte's name got him an interview but you still have to get the job. You also have to work to keep it.

But that's true in all walks of life
It's who you know, not what you know that gets you your start

Read my post again..

Knucklehead...it fits..you seem not to have read my posts...are you attempting to arguie with a ghost? No one has said that sanctions wll not hurt...

USC has a one of the best programs for rewarding contributing walk-ons with scholarships. That is why they take such small classes on an annual basis. They will get hurt because it's a matter of numbers [especially during the spring] but not as bad as some think unless the quality of walk-ons drops off substantially.

The loss of juniors and seniors also could be damaging on all fronts. May have a domino effect. Stay tuned.

Walk-ons pay their own dime and therefore do not count against the scholarship limit. They typically play two or three or more years and earn a scholarship toward the latter part of their playing career. USC historically gets an inordinate number of high quality walk-ons. Define good and I'll take the bet.

I think he will be reduced to an OC job in the NCAA, at a tier 2 program. While that is still a decent job, I wouldn't call it a good job for someone who has been the HC of the Raiders, the Vols, and now the Trogans.

Kiffin could bomb as the USC Head Coach, but even if he's fired, he'll at least have the opportunity to be an OC at practically any school in the nation that needs to fill/upgrade the position. Say what you want about the guy, but in my opinion, he's got a very good offensive mind and can recruit with the best of them. He could probably even land as the HC of a desperate Div. 1 team, but by then, I don't know if Monte will still be with him and I'd highly doubt Orgeron would be too.

That was my biggest worry when Kiffin and Co. were here. When was Monte going to eventually retire, and how many seasons was Orgeron going to stick around? What I imagined was that Orgeron would probably bail for a promotion else where after 3-4 years, and then Monte would retire after 5 or so. Then Kiffin would be the only constant of the group, and I envision the rest of the coaching staff would remain turbulant. Now I feel USC is in the same timeline, but they also have the probation that will hinder the couple of seasons that core stays together.

with the way he recruits kiffin would get a chance at many mid tier bcs schools. not sure he'd get another top position though.

I've already asked the same question and have gotten no response. I guarantee without a package deal (Ed and Monty) he will not even be considered for a HC job if he fails at USC.
