Hate to hear that. Condolences to his family.

He had his moments. The few times I was forced to listen to him while calling a UT game it was awful. He would go 10 mins and never give the score nor time remaining in the game. And when a big play happened you couldn't make out what happened for several minuets.

Thoughts are with his family none the less.

I thought the "Hobnail Boot" thing was way overboard. I really think that most UGA fans think Munson was in the early stages of dimentia at that point. It was a great game. But I think the old Munson would have done it very differently. He had a lot of respect for UT. Even though he was a Vandy guy.

RIP Larry Munson. John Ward and Jack Crystal are the only old ones left.

Larry had a great carrier here in Nashville before going to UGA. Alot of people may or may not know that.

This was a few years before that. He was a legend but hard to listen to at times and know what was really going on. Maybe that was the draw?

Over the years you learned what was going on by the tone of his voice. There was a connection. That'll never happen again.

Stay classy fellas, it's a sad time down in UGA. He was a legend, like our own John Ward.

Condolences to Larry Munson's family and 'Dawg Nation.

The sport has lost a passionate and well respected announcer.

I'd never heard the Lindsey Scott call, although I remember well Scott catching passes thrown by Buck Belue, set up by the greatest running threat in college football history. Whether you're a Vol or Dawg or whatever, you have to appreciate the tradition and character in the voices of Larry Munson and John Ward and others like them. Listening to these guys call games in the 1970s made me an SEC fan. Maybe the brave new world of super-conferences will deliver something more riveting, but I seriously doubt it.

Though I hated the result, I am proud that the Vols merited the "Hobnail Boot" histrionics. I want our rivals and their announcers to care that much again. Win or lose, these are the moments that it all so great.

RIP Larry Munson.

You don't even have to be a UGA fan. Munson was part of the fabric of this area. For years I haven't been able to listen to the radio without hearing Munson calling a game, replayed on a highlight, doing an ad etc. He's done Braves, Falcons, Dawgs and everything else you can think of.

Pretty sure you just did.

It's always been when talking about Larry Munson, someone says "I wish someone would step on his heart with a hobnail boot". Was just wondering if someone was actually going to do it now that he has passed.

The first part might be argued by millions. But thanks for the second part.

No - actually anyone outside of the state of Georgia wouldn't. Just listen to the two and its not even comparable. Munson's legend mostly just comes from being the guy for so long. He can't hold a candle to Ward with the microphone from his voice, descriptions, and emotion.

Not to mention he just made games annoying to listen too and stayed waaaaay too long. You'd be lucky to know what actually happened on a play until one of the color guys actually filled you in late in his career. I remember listening to him during UGA's last appearance in the SECCG and it was horrendous.
