No - actually anyone outside of the state of Georgia wouldn't. Just listen to the two and its not even comparable. Munson's legend mostly just comes from being the guy for so long. He can't hold a candle to Ward with the microphone from his voice, descriptions, and emotion.

Not to mention he just made games annoying to listen too and stayed waaaaay
too long. You'd be lucky to know what
actually happened on a play until one of the
color guys actually filled you in. I remember
listening to him during UGA's last
appearance in the SECCG and it was
horrendous.

I will admitt that after UT games I would tune into 750 WSB from atlanta up here and listen to Munsons graveled old voice.

What part of "stay classy, Vols" are you missing?

Have a little respect, the guy passed away. Or do you routinely argue at funerals about whether the honoree was of acceptable calibre?

Is the south changing? When I was growing up, death was well respected and no one would even dare to think about being disrespectful to the person passed away. It was frowned upon to be disrespectful of the dead.

Ward is great, but the gap between him and Ward wasn't as big as you lead on.

RIP, Mr. Munson.

Seriously??

Anybody discussing who was better, while voluntarily reading an "R.I.P." thread should stop breathing and do us all a favor.

THE MAN DIED. Pay respects or move along. Things like this make me wish the internet had a reach through button. So many cowards hiding behind a keyboard.

Larry was a legend. Ward is a legend. That is all that needs to be said. You can be pissy about the hobnail boot thing, just as I am. But John Chavis and Phil Fulmer lead to that call. Not Larry Munson. Be mad at the Mustang package, or the kick out of bounds.

Over the years you learned what was going on by the tone of his voice. There was a connection. That'll never happen again.

You maybe right about that, I didn't hear him enough to know.

As an opposing fan he was hard to follow at times.

Thanks. If you're a Dawg fan, Munson is like one of your family. Ward is the same for Vol fans. We SEC fans like to believe that we hate each other. But we're all cut from the same cloth.

As a Dawg fan, this one really hurts.

Condolences to the Dawg nation. It will be a dark day for us Vols when John Ward's time comes and I am not ashamed to say that a few tears will be shed by this Vol fan.

Mr. Munson had a very long and fulfilling life. I hope I make it to 89. His passing transcends that of most 89 year olds. I think his passing indicates an end of an era in sports of the south. His voice, as well as John Ward's, triggered a nostalgia that is not replicable. Sad day for UGA fans. I hate the Dawgs, but I respect their traditions. Larry Munson was certainly one of those traditions that I'm speaking of. RIP Mr. Munson.

No, anybody with ears and a brain wouldn't argue that. But, I'm pretty sure that you're batting .500 at best on those two requirements.

You continue to exhibit the utmost in class. I just wish you were a relative so that I could spend Thanksgiving with you. You're batting 0.0 BTW.

Bravo, outstanding post!!

IMO it was more coach Fulmer than coach Chavis on the mustang package.

Never heard of him, what group is he with?

Most of his early career he was a session musician. Then he turned that into a solo career, but he collaborated with countless hall of fame musicians: George Harrison, Joe Cocker, Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, Elton John, and more. Russell wrote the song "Delta Lady," and Cocker later made it to #11 on the charts with his version of the song. He is a very unique performer, and very underrated imo.

I was never a fan of Mr. Munson as an announcer, but I bid peace to him, his family, amd the Bulldog Nation, where he will be sorely missed.

God Bless!
