He's the only true 1B on the roster besides a freshman? Bargo isn't and neither is Clark? I'll have to respectfully disagree on him on getting little run there. Let him and Bargo compete the first month then go with the better of the two. As far as Tony goes, he cares about winning and every player in that locker room understands that. I don't think this will disrupt the locker room.
Just confirmed. Osuna started 6 games at 1B in his entire 3-year career at NC. He was their primary DH.

Too bad he won’t have a full offseason to get even more reps like Evan Russell did at C. Still blows my mind he was able to be a dang solid C after not playing the position in college prior to that year.
Evan Russell is a walking talking Vol Legend! They don’t make them any better than that young man!

Osuna is not a true 1B. He’s a true DH. Played 99% at NC at DH—hardly ever played 1B in his entire career at NC. Bargo played 1B in the Cape and is very good there. Osuna will be a good RH pinch hitter off the bench and DH.
Just because he didn't start at 1st and was DH doesn't mean he wasn't a true 1B lol. That's like saying the backup wr wasn't a wr because he didn't start over the guy that played.

Did he play 1st at Walter State? Can you confirm for three years he didn't practice at 1B even if he didn't start? DH's do have positions in the field so if he was the backup 1B guy but he started at DH that still in fact makes him a true 1B.

But it does mean it isn’t a sure thing that he’s a better defensive 1B than Bargo. Regardless, I’m guessing one started at 1B and the other is the DH.

My point is there’s a reason Osuna only played 6 games at 1B during his entire 3 years at NC. Bargo played Appy League and Cape Cod League at 1B, and has the skill set to play 3B, LF, RF, and C. I hope Osuna knocks the cover off the ball but don’t like bringing in someone 2 weeks before the season. Too much potential to disrupt the clubhouse. Plus, he didn’t grind it out and bond with the team during the Fall or Winter conditioning and practices. I trust CTV but just don’t love this decision.

As a fan with no personal connection to the program, I love this pickup. I have no reason to question CTV given his track record. He knows what he’s doing and clearly thinks the reward of adding Ozuna outweighs any potential clubhouse issues. Right handed bat with experience and power, which is needed on this team. Like others have said, will likely platoon at DH.

Having said that, context clues leads me to believe a poster or two who are questioning this have skin in the game and this addition may disrupt that. Understandably, that’s hard and I’m sure I’d feel the same way if I was in their shoes.

I think this is probably a backup plan just in case Peebles or Fischer’s injuries linger too long into the season , Bargo could catch or play third base , if everyone’s healthy Osuna can battle for the DH spot , to pick up an experienced right handed bat with power is a plus

Maybe check the stats before you all celebrate him playing 1b. He has very little playing time at the position at NC. I am guessing he coming into add a RH bat at DH more than play defense. Unfortunately nobody in the media for TN bothers to research anything. Bargo played 1B in the Appy league and the Cape Cod last year, so has experience at the position, but nobody wants to talk about that.
I’m looking for big things from DB this year.
If he can relax at the plate and not try to absolutely destroy every pitch he sees, we will be DONG’ng for Dalton, a lot this season!
