I watched several of the regional games that UNC played last year. I remember this guy as mostly a DH during the regional. He had 14 HRs, batted .281 and led the team in strike outs.

He is depth at best if eligible and I didn't make it to the bottom of this thread yet.

My initial reaction is that I’m not sure I like this in concept for a few reasons. Of course I recognize that if the rules allow it, then the rules allow it.

This may sound naïve, but this is college baseball and school at UT has already been in for two weeks (other schools have been back for even longer). What about the guys (as someone else pointed out) who have been competing for a spot since the fall, and possibly even longer? And, if the rules allow it, could current Tennessee player X show up next week on campus at Ole Miss/LSU/any other school?
Do you know that the roster is not published yet? Two days before 1st pitch and roster spots are still up for grabs.

Like it or not, that has been the case with Vol baseball since CTV got here. There's kids that leave after Fall camp and I think one of the guys competing pulled out of school recently for personal reasons.

In the NIL world, there are no guarantees either way. CTV is managing his roster within the rules with the best interest of the program in mind. I truly believe that. It sucks for a kid whose dream doesn't come true. It happens every year.

My point is there’s a reason Osuna only played 6 games at 1B during his entire 3 years at NC. Bargo played Appy League and Cape Cod League at 1B, and has the skill set to play 3B, LF, RF, and C. I hope Osuna knocks the cover off the ball but don’t like bringing in someone 2 weeks before the season. Too much potential to disrupt the clubhouse. Plus, he didn’t grind it out and bond with the team during the Fall or Winter conditioning and practices. I trust CTV but just don’t love this decision.
Agreed. Time for Osuna to join a men's softball league if he wants to continue hitting dingers. At some point you gotta give it up and move on if you are not pro level. Love CTV and understand he is acting within the Pavia decision but I have no interest in cheering for this guy this year with him taking opportunities away from younger players.

On the positive side, Osuna is apparently a high character/great guy and very team oriented. I hear he’s well liked so far by his new teammates. I don’t hold anything against Osuna and hope he does well—-just don’t like adding anyone so late…. With that said, I trust CTV 100%.

The Courts ruled against Osuna’s request for a Temporary Restraining Order and basically said you should have filed your suit earlier. Preliminary Injunction hearing is scheduled for 2/26. The same ruling that Pavia initially received. Osuna won’t be eligible in February.

He will end up being a bench bat then…it’ll be hard for him to get going during SEC play unless someone gets injured

Legal mind help needed. How is that finding possible in light of the Pavia and then our Kits decision. Can one sport have Juco count and another not within the same organization?

So he made the final roster I am seeing the correct final roster, did this happen to take the place of someone who could have benefited from being with the team and developed or were the people that he took the place of most likely not a good fit to begin with?

Could this possibly turn into a dead roster spot if the courts drag their feet or deny his request?

It’s proceeding exactly like the Pavia case. Check the news February 26.

Pavia’s initial suit was denied. He won when in court which Osuna will likely do on 2/26. Only difference is Fall sport in 24 vs Spring sport in 25.

one issue I can see waying in on this, Pavia made his request in December for the next season. These guys are doing it as the season is starting and there are many other players that will come knocking after this season about getting their year back, because they didn't want to leave the comittment made to another team or not thinking they had the ability to play again. Also I think a thought in this is North Carolina was told no chance at him getting another year and that is why he left. So many variables, respect the desire to play, but at some point somebody has to say enough is enough when athletes are still playing college sports in their middle 20's.

The ncaa created this mess by allowing Pavia another season , had they denied him this wouldn’t have happened in baseball , I’m not sure what they the ncaa expected to happen once you open that door and now they are dragging their feet hoping it goes away but that’s probably not gonna happen , you’d think that kids requesting waivers and stuff if their season has started or on the brink of starting would move much more quickly than those same out of season requests , I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with the Pavia decision but looks to me like the ncaa has already set a precedence in such cases and moving forward others will have to be given another year of eligibility
