The eventual, precise determination of the efficacy of the mask isn’t really the point. Consumer confidence is based more on perception than reality (although there have been studies saying that the mask has some benefit with respect to protecting others from yourself in the event that you’re a carrier)Evidence is conflicting on this. Just like it could live on surfaces for days and infect you days later, the CDC came out last night and said that's not the case. They said it's actually hard to spread the virus from surface contact. But I guess time will tell as they continue research, so far the more we find out the better the news gets.
If you’re one of the ones saying this wasn’t worth shutting down the economy, then refusing to wear a mask is a self-defeating action because it undermines the sense of security that the marketplace is trying to instill by insisting on the mask in the first place.
