Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

California Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered all dine-in restaurants, bars, movie theaters, museums across the state to close Monday.

Deja vu all over again.

We'll see if this snowballs. TX, FL and AZ hotspots... how far are their Governors willing to push back while their hospitals reach capacity? At some point, I would think, public pressure will be too much. I think they'll be forced to reclose in some capacity.

Disagree.

The virus is very deadly. We've avoided a bullet in large part due to the fact that we implemented social distancing, etc.

At its apex (first apex, that is):

COVID-19 is killing 20 times more people per week than flu does, new paper says
And the flu would also kill more if we didnt take measures to prevent it. Again it's not unique beyond the fact that it's new.

The original freak out makes sense. It was new and we didnt know what to do. Including our health care system the world over. Now there is a much better understanding.

We already went thru one gambit of hydroxchloroquine. It worked, it didnt work, we are currently at it does work.

Then you have all the other things doctors have learned. I dont know where the medical line is for "enough", but imo we have crossed several thresholds since the beginning to where we are close enough not to be shutting down the country.

And that's even disregarding all the stupidity of sending Covid patients back to their nursing homes that caused huge upticks in death.

Most people arent saying dont do anything. Most people can see that this is a risk, like any other that we live with, not worth shutting the country down over.

I get it.

Well, the Governor of California just shut down most indoor activities again (restaurants, bars, theaters, museums). Seems this is the minimum we can do - sacrifice leisure activities.

These two actions are huge. CA normally serves as the harbinger for the rest of the nation.

Corona Shut Down II.

No in-person school this fall. Most every indoor shop shutting down.

Here we go...

California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a statewide executive order Monday that puts an end to indoor operations at restaurants, bars, movie theaters, family entertainment, zoos, and museums. Gyms, hair salons, malls, and churches will also be forced to close in 30 counties. The move comes as the state tops 320,000 confirmed cases, more than anywhere in the country except for New York, where new infections are vastly lower than their April peak. California reported 8,640 new cases on Sunday, versus 557 in New York.

Public schools in Los Angeles and San Diego, California will hold all fall classes remotely. The districts are the largest in the state, enrolling a combined 825,000 students. “The health and safety of all in the school community is not something we can compromise,” said

The governor in our state keeps trying to shut things down...... he keeps sued and losing..... the last loss was the bowling alleys.

They don’t have to follow that. They can ignore it. Governor says she can only make recommendations
There is a big tug of war going on there. I have no idea how they are enforcing this.

I went to Publix yesterday and everybody had a mask on. And at least whenever I walked in and out they didnt have anyone at the doors, or any signage, saying you had to. I was actually impressed.

Our local Pulix had signs on the doors asking people to wear a mask. Had a couple kids at the entrance wiping down carts, don't know what they would have done if someone walked in not wearing one.

My county mandated masks beginning 7/12.
I was running errands today and went to a couple of different grocery stores.
Unlike any other time since this started, everybody was wearing a mask, too. I didn't see anyone without one. Also, there were no signs on the doors or people enforcing it.
The adjacent county just mandated masks beginning tomorrow.

Yeah. There was someone wiping down and staging the carts, but no way they could watch. There was also a bored security guy too, but based on the small observation sample I saw he wasnt do anything beyond the usual.

Idk, maybe there was some keen eyed person waiting in the wings, and they just weren't needed.

I wonder if they have thought about getting some Karen's to volunteer for the job.

Like most establishments it’s an “ask” not a requirement. They won’t enforce it unless the government threatens them with penalties if they do not.
