Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

The analysis is a statistical approximation based on anonymized cell phone data that documented the influx in the town from non-residents and showed where they came from.

The data also showed a rise in foot traffic at restaurants and bars, retail establishments, entertainment venues, hotels and campgrounds.

The bikers generally did not wear masks or practice social distancing, the study said, citing media reports.

US counties that contributed the highest numbers of attendees experienced a rise of 7 to 12.5 percent in the number of cases compared to those that did not contribute inflows.

Researchers said their calculations indicated "a total of 263,708 additional cases in these locations due to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally".

A limitation of the study is that it was based on statistical methods, rather than tracking and surveying rally participants.

It's unbelievable how misinformed and misleading the people we are trusting to handle this pandemic really are. An excerpt from today's Knox Co HD media briefing:

"Herd immunity is accomplished by vaccination not by people getting sick. Honestly, we don’t know very much about the natural immunity yet. We think it’s pretty short lived, maybe three months. So that’s not going to help us for very long."

Unbelievable.

Again, how many have the protest and riots lead to? This is how they create divide, make one side the enemy and the other the victim

Dr. Buchanan should already have been removed.

I mean, help me: so she's suggesting that natural immunity isn't going to work, but we should trust a vaccine that hasn't even been developed and will almost certainly result in a shorter-lived immune response?

I guess we can all just take monthly COVID shots for the rest of our lives. Insider trading info would be appreciated if somebody has a leak on the most likely contender(s)...

She might want to look at the places heavily hit in other countries and notice how there hasnt been any resurgence 3 months later.

I used to have a ton of respect for her. I thought she was a decent lady. She has said and done every stupid thing possible since this got going. I have zero confidence or respect for her any longer.

I posited that I dont think there was a second wave. I think since we are geographically a large country, we saw large population areas get hit at different times.
This is where I stand. Early (and continued) travel restrictions, limited gatherings, school closures, etc pushed the curve to the right.
The large metro areas like NYC, NJ got hit hard and have not seen a resurgence.

do you think there will be a second wave, or is it basically over?

Gatherings of more than six are being banned to try to halt a second wave of coronavirus.

From Monday it will be illegal to assemble in groups of seven or more anywhere in England, whether indoors or out.

It's not over in a lot of areas, due to all the "measures" that are pushing the curve flatter and to the right. I do believe that the downward trend in deaths, hospitalizations, etc is real and will continue. The question that may never be answered is whether we save or cost lives by drawing this thing out so long, especially if it pushes into flu season. We know, for sure, that there has been massive collateral damage -- economical, unintended deaths, mental health, fitness, delayed screenings/diagnoses/treatments, etc.

but no second wave and 10's of thousands dead more and just some massive death toll

I don't think there will be a "second wave," but winter will be very telling. I'm still very worried about the overlap with the already-risky flu season for the elderly. I'm really hoping and praying that many areas are nearing the needed immunity-threshold to protect the at-risk. If not, then we may have made a massively-fatal error in our approach.
