Pfizer can't even supply these until late June. Unlike you the Trump administration is forward looking and they see that they'll have options from other companies well before then

Trump bought 100 million doses but Pfizer pushed more. The admin said no.

And the answer to “why” is they didn’t want to put all their eggs in one basket and they weren’t funding Pfizer’s vaccine. The contract called for options on 500M more and they tried to exercise 100M of that. Pfizer came back and said they could only do 50M. It’s fine working as intended and Moderna will be certified about a week after Pfizer and we get ALL of theirs since we funded it

Okay I'll type slow for you to understand...the Pfizer vaccine has to be stored at -112F the Moderna 36-46F the Pfizer one requires 2 doses, Moderna 1, we got 100 million single doses from Moderna for 1.5 billion, 100 million double doses from Pfizer for 2 billion

The Moderna vaccine requires two doses and requires -4F storage with a 30 day shelf life at 36-46. Pfizer only has a five day shelf life after thaw.

All of three (Moderna, Pfizer and AZ) require 2 doses. I think the J&J one will be the first approved that will only require one dose

Both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines require two doses. Pfizer’s booster shot will be given three weeks after the first one; Moderna’s is spaced four weeks later.

There is no argument that could be made that Trump has any concern for frugality (see the $7T added to the national debt in his four years and the $1T budget deficit he proposed for this year pre covid), but that won't keep some of his supporters from believing he's a conservative. However, Pfizer offered more doses for Q2 next year (per former FDA commissioner and current Pfizer board member Scott Gottlieb). By that time everyone in this country who wants a vaccine will have had the opportunity to get it. Someone who has a history of intellectual dishonesty and/or ignorance of details in this thread posted a link to the Fox News article regarding Trump signing the America first plan for distribution. The article leads with inaccuracies by stating the vaccine will be available to all Americans prior to being exported. This isn't true. Doses will be exported prior to the vaccine being approved for all Americans (trials are ongoing in children 12-17). The news this morning about Pfizer's additional doses is almost as meaningless as the news yesterday about the America first distribution plan. We will have over 100M doses available for Americans by early next year. After that number is administered, the rest would most likely expire due to people not wanting it or it not being approved for certain ages.

Other important points include that the AZ and J&J vaccines use viral vector technology (rather than mRNA), are significantly cheaper, and are more stable for transport and storage.

The cost is $20 a dose. We turned down more orders for that? A hundred million more doses would have cost $2 billion.

Irrelevant. I’m not the one making the cost case I pointed to the don’t put all your eggs in one basket case. F$&@ Pfizer the Modera vaccine is more manageable and requires half the doses. And we’ve got two more on deck. And we own ALL of these.
