Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Please, please.. provide the data that I should be using to formulate my projections. Maybe with this more accurate data, I can better decide on whether or not to visit the "old people" in my family this Christmas.

You know since you seem so concerned and all.

Jesus. Seriously?

How about you do what the old people in your family want you to do? It’s up to them, not you.

How about this? I dont even have to look. Go look up the distribution of deaths by age and comorbidities and get back to us.

Then maybe, just maybe, you might get off this ridiculous stupidity of “total deaths this month” and actually start to look at this thing for what it is.

I doubt it given what I’m dealing with, but I’m still hopeful this light will go on for you eventually.

Its about the trends, and seeing what Thanksgiving brought us.

Daily deaths, being a laggiing indicator, tells me enough to help with my decision. Although I wouldn't go against those in my family's wishes, if they preferred to isolate, regardless. Adding the local surge in cases along with the prospect of a decline in quality of healthcare, I'd say that's plenty to make an informed decision.

I'm not telling anyone what to do, and don't think that sharing my thoughts in the COVID thread is pushing a narrative, at least no more than anyone else here.

But if someone shares my concerns, that's why I shared mine, in the first place. And if they don't, we'll that's just the status quo.

Pfizer got no federal money to research or develop the vaccine. The federal funds they're getting are for distribution. Trump helped getting it delivered, not developed.

Wrong - the major changes to rules for FDA approval were instrumental in the development and testing of this vaccine. It wouldn't be out of Phase 1 (of 3 phases) by now without those changes. In addition, the legal shield from most liability sped development. Finally, the guaranteed purchase mitigated the financial risk of development and pre-production.

If you can dial back the hate for one second you can give credit where credit is due.

And suddenly EL has something else to do......

And if masses of people start dying or become otherwise debilitated from the vaccine, I'm sure that's all on Pfizer and the FDA, eh?

grim way of thinking but yes if the shortcuts in the FDA approval process are linked to this fantasy then Trump deserves some blame for his role.

it's like an obsession with the Trump haters - must find way to imagine how things can go wrong to vindicate the Trump hate.

Just saying.. I think Trump suggested he'd fire someone from the FDA if they didn't give the Green light.

I'm just curious who would be willing to give credit where it is due.

his comments were wrong but they came after the panel gave it the green light.

none of that counters the policy actions made by his administration to get the vaccine to the point where it is now.

No it's the FDA's job to decide whether a vaccine is suitable for approval. Trump didnt think they were capable of making the right decision, apparently, thus the strong-arming attempt. Has anyone here suggested the vaccine isnt safe? If so, maybe thats where you would better direct your accusations of Trump hate.

the Trump comments came after the FDA panel recommended approval and it was awaiting one final (and inevitable) action by the FDA. he was wrong to interject but it was meaningless. that doesn't change a thing about all the steps taken to facilitate a truly historic medical development.

your reaction is to fantasize about the vaccine killing people so you can see if people will blame Trump.
