Study: Athletes see higher post-COVID heart risk

Misleading title is misleading. They are at a higher risk than previously thought if you use the most advanced testing available. Imo changing the dynamics of the study makes it much more difficult to compare to old ones.

And by "increased" they mean from single digits to low double digits out of more than 1,000.

They also bounce back and forth between rate and pure numbers to make things seem worse.

My understanding is that after any virus there is a chance of myocarditis. Is there a base line percentage for that to say Covid is worse?
Just like super slow motion replay of a normal slide into second base to change the outcome of a game.

Meanwhile, we are reaping the rewards of not challenging our immune systems all year... We are seeing an absolutely unprecedented amount of RSV, parainfluenza, and other common respiratory viruses (common coronaviruses, rhinovirus, etc) for this time of year. I've admitted several babies with RSV this month. Now, everyone is worried about leaving for vacation because their kids have "weird colds for summer."

telling data on the dangers of Covid. The first chart shows how cases are distributed by age - notice that 18-54 are the highest (and young children the lowest). The second shows deaths distributed by age - notice that almost all the action is 65 and older with the bulk being 80+ years old. I haven't run the numbers but for people under 65 I'd bet Covid was no more deadly and possibly less deadly than the seasonal flu. Fortunately the two age groups that represent the vast majority of the deaths are also the most highly vaccinated (75%).

Enjoy

I recently dealt with something I’ve never had before. Just now getting over it.

Terrible pain from around the tonsil, down the side of the neck after a simple cold. Was killer painful to sleep or swallow. Ended up spreading to ear pain. Went to the doctor and he said it looked like a bad infection.

Prescribed 10 day antibiotic cycle, which helped a little but never knocked it out. After finishing cycle, it got worse again. After another 5 days, I was going to the ENT.

But as fast as it came, it disappeared. In 3 days, it pretty much disappeared. It was odd to me because I’d never had anything like that before.

The best thing my parents did for my immune system was to send me to my grandparents' farm in the summer to work in the farm, wade through cow and chicken ****, and play with the unwashed hunting dogs. We need more of that. Kids don't get nearly dirty enough for long enough anymore.

If you run the numbers on covid versus flu for the under 65, love to hear if your belief proves true.

Good grief, the world effed this up so badly.

Me and my brothers hardly ever got sick, getting covered in cow **** and dirt every day along with drinking milk straight from the tank does wonders for the immune system.

Best I can find is that 20/21 shows 300 deaths from Covid and 182 from flu for ages 0-17.

For reference in 2018/19 the same age group had 477 flu deaths.

Doesn't hold for 18-49 where Covid deaths were considerably higher 26K vs 18/19 flu deaths 2500 (10x as much)

Oh I am certain the under 18 crowd faces the worst outcome at a lower rate from covid than flu.

I'm not sure about the under 65 category.

Wow, I was just telling my wife this theory of mine! I’ve been sick as a dog for the past week. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been this sick. And I surmised this was a reason for it.

I have had a two-week cold I just cannot get rid of.

Didn't you read me the riot act for posting a meme about the slavery of masks?
