Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Ok that makes me think of something, is there some statistical way to cut the numbers?

We have to do multiple tests if positive. First one you find out you are positive and then assumidely you have to get a second to prove you arent positive.
That one person could easily count as 2, with some counting as 3, 4, 5 etc if they keep testing positive.

Seems like there is an argument that we are pretty heavily double dipping our numbers. Granted not everyone's second test comes back positive, but it seems like we should be able to calculate a "law of increasing (vs diminishing) returns" based on recovery rates, right?

I dont think we are full on double counting, but I could easily believe some math if it showed that the increasing returns accounts for ~25% of the total cases.

It helps with the total infected but would hurt us on mortality rate.

Has anyone seen some numbers on this? @TennTradition

Maybe not specifically for Covid, but some type of rule of thumb to adjust for double/triple counting?

EthicalSkeptic is saying that 25% is the real case rise in the 10 hot spots - supported by 33% increase in hospitalization rates. But, I'm not sure about that.

As for how positives are counted, it completely depends on the state and possibly even the labs. It shouldn't be this difficult, but it is.

I do know that Tennessee no longer counts people who re-test positive during recovery as another case. That positive test is reported separately and new cases are used to calculate percent positives when looking at testing.

Ruh Roh - Someone is trying to inflate the numbers for political purposes.
FOX 35 Investigation Reveals Inflated Florida Coronavirus Numbers

FOX 35 anchor Charles Billi explained the impetus for the investigation. He said, “We found numerous labs that are only reporting positive test results, so they show a 100-percent positivity rate. That got our attention.”
According to the latest publication of statewide test results from the Florida Department of Health, published on Friday, several testing facilities’ positivity rates for coronavirus tests were 27.66, 33.33, 37.10, 40, 43.13, 44.44, 50, 55, 57.14, 59.23, 60, 87.5, 91.18, and 100.
Twenty-two labs reported 100-percent positivity rates. Two labs reported 91.18-percent positivity rates.
The Florida Department of Health’s stated positivity rates and associated volume of coronavirus cases does not match claims made by the testing facilities, reported FOX 35:
Countless labs have reported a 100 percent positivity rate, which means every single person tested was positive. Other labs had very high positivity rates. FOX 35 found that testing sites like Centra Care reported that 83 people were tested and all tested positive. Then, NCF Diagnostics in Alachua reported 88 percent of tests were positive.
How could that be? FOX 35 News investigated these astronomical numbers, contacting every local location mentioned in the report.
The report showed that Orlando Health had a 98 percent positivity rate. However, when FOX 35 News contacted the hospital, they confirmed errors in the report. Orlando Health’s positivity rate is only 9.4 percent, not 98 percent as in the report.

“The report also showed that the Orlando Veteran’s Medical Center had a positivity rate of 76 percent,” added FOX 35. “A spokesperson for the VA told FOX 35 News on Tuesday that this does not reflect their numbers and that the positivity rate for the center is actually 6 percent.”
The outlet added:
“FOX 35 News went on to speak with the Florida Department of Health on Tuesday. They confirmed that although private and public laboratories are required to report positive and negative results to the state immediately, some have not. Specifically, they said that some smaller, private labs were not reporting negative test result data to the state.”

Jebus Crisp dipsharts, DON'T KILL PEOPLE OVER A MASK. Yes, it sucks. Yes, it violates your personal rights. JUST DO IT AND DON'T LOSE YER FRIGGIN MIND!

"Michigan police say a deputy shot and killed a man after he stabbed a 77-year-old convenience store customer who confronted him about not wearing a mask.

Sean Ernest Ruis, 43, walked into a Quality Dairy store roughly 5 miles outside Lansing, Michigan at about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday. There, a 77-year-old male customer confronted him about not wearing a mask, Michigan State Police Lt. Brian Oleksyk said. Tuesday was the second day of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s order that masks must be worn inside businesses.

The 77-year-old customer was wearing a mask, Ruis was not, Oleksyk said.

Both men left the store and got into an argument in the parking lot. Ruis stabbed the other man, then fled the area, Oleksyk said. The 77-year-old, who is from Lansing, is in stable condition. His name has not been released."

How about you don't go confronting someone over not wearing one? I'd personally stay as far from them as possible if I am really concerned about catching the virus from someone not wearing a mask.

That's not justifying what happened either but just saying. . .

Classic trolling with bait... I expect better from you (whether you deserve such expectation or not). When I'm talking apples, don't challenge me with suppositions about oil palms.

Translation:
Let me address the splinter in your eye and not the plank in mine.

No worries. That approach has been around for millennia.

One covid one lead poisoning, or both covid deaths?

For the record @McDad, I do not condone or excuse recent looting or arson in the US.

Now, refrain from posting suppositions about acts of resistance in occupied territories during times of war.

Such a bold, multi paragraph recrimination. Certainly by the scale of your posts of the two events which cause you concern, we can deduce you are equally troubled by both.

To the .65% We arent all as dumb as @McDad seems

I think there are a number of us at least as intelligent and informed as the policy makers. Which is why a bunch hold pretty irreverent opinions of them all.

We hear "oh we couldnt have known X", and in fact you can go back and look at various threads on various subjects where "x" was being pushed.

I believe everyone should know the extent of my dunceness.

I don't understand the correlation with this one. Is "The Hill" even correlating or simply putting two unrelated item in juxtaposition to create alarm?

Wall Street and Main Street are wholly disconnected now.

Between the new daytrading "bros", FOMO, and MOMO traders, we're in a crazy place right now.

The market is primed to crash. At some point, reality wins.

Can you make heads or tails of the correlation in EL's tweet?
