Go to the rivals commit lists and compare UT and Florida, it makes me sick.

the way Myer is recruiting, UF is building a powerhouse. Where are we? Look how the mighty have fallen. Maybe we should start talking about tough academic requirements, the way Notre Dame did when thay were down.

How can you say we are on the way up??? please provide the basis for that statement considering that the Vols have not played a down yet this year. New coaches, previous top recruiting classes, a new focus on discipline, yadda yadda yadda.

THE SKY IS FALLING!

Let's keep in mind that Tennessee traditionally finishes strong, which is a "good thing" IMO, as a lot of the top players don't commit terribly early.

well we hit rock bottom last year. there is no way we wont make a bowl. schedule is much easier. we have easy wins at air force, marshall, memphis, vandy, and kentucky.thats five wins then we have 7 more games that we have a chance at winnning. we should win 3-4 of those games. thats goin up.

What was Tennessee's recruiting class ranked this past season???? I do not recall it being in the top 20!

If the Vols dont have a good season, we will have another lack luster recruiting class!

I wouldn't be so quick to say that Vandy is an easy win. They play the Vols tough every year and they finally beat the mighty Vols last year.

But lets say that the Vols go 8 and 4..... which will not be easy....

I personally as a fan am not happy with 8 and 4. That is not top level football. maybe ark, or miss state or kentucky or ole miss or vandy is happy with that but not me!!!!

What was it ranked the previous year? I do not recall the team finishing in the top-25! There is more to success than a top-5 class, obviously.

Sure, recruitment is important, but I'd like to see a little "development" of talent from this year's coaching staff. We've planted one heckuva garden, now it's time to start harvesting.

I'm with you, there. 8-4 = Kiddiedoc joins the "time for a change" camp. And, you can quote me on that.

The top players are committing early, just look at the lists. UF does not have a bunch of no star guys, look at texas, look at usc. I think your thinking fits the way things used to be, it's a different recruiting world now.

We were #23 for 2006 recruiting, which ended earlier on this year.

I think this thread was started for the 2007 recruiting, in which UT is getting killed. We'll end up with another solid class, but right now, it looks in question.

You just hit the nail on the head. 41 of the Rivals 100 have committed already and it's mid-June! IMO the big boys are turning the screws on these kids really early and it seems to be working. The days of thoughtful objective decisionmaking are over. I have read again and again that the main thing the top prospects are looking for is entry into the NFL. That means playing time, national exposure, and being connected to a team with a recent history of success (or at least not a recent history of dismal failure). Unfortuntely, UT cannot offer any of that with a straight face. Fulmer wants to redshirt everyone. Most of our national exposure is negative, see Lee Corso for an explanation. Finally, kids who are rising HS seniors were in 2nd or 3rd grade in 1998. Our successes are ancient history in the era of shrinking atention spans and instant gratification.

I'm starting to wonder whether or not the days of actual decision making aren't numbered. More kids than ever verballed last year only to back out when signing came near. I don't really know how anyone can say they have anyone at this point in the recruiting game.

If you just wan to go by star ratings we are being monkey-stomped by UF, UGA, LSU, and Ole Miss, . Beaten by Bama, Auburn. and SCar. Tied with Arky and MissSt. And ahead of Kentucky and Vandy. Not that any of that means anything since we all know that unrated kids with lots of heart and a team attitude are worth a million 5-star prospects.

Keep in mind that 16 or so of the kids from our #1 class red-shirted last year...

I have heard chatter recently about moving the singing day up. Probably won't happen for 2008 but I see it coming.

I presume you refer to the last sentence? Yeah, I guess I am but there are plenty of people lurking around here who would have us believe it if it helps Fulmer keep his job a little longer. My big question is whether all the people from Winchester, Tullahoma and Fayeteville will go back to being Bammers when Fulmer is no longer the head coach at UT? :dunno:

Yes. I feared that you had suffered a closed head injury. A plow horse has never won the Kentucky Derby.

we will continue to do very average in recruiting untill our offense shows some major improvement. it won't be for a couple of years. this is fulmers fault for letting us slip as far as we have in the past 4 years. big name prospects want to go to a place that will play in BCS bowls right now tennessee is not even close. we have to find away to win the sec since we haven't won it since 98. the big prospects will continue to stay away.

IMO it is time for Trooper to earn his raise. We keep hearing that he is a motivator, and I honestly think he got Riggs' head as straight as it could be, but it is time for him to fill the stable with thoroughbreds. My guess is that CPF will begin to get more involved than he has been in the last few years as well.

Our recruiting sucked last year because our team sucked. Is it any surprise that our pre-season recruiting is going to go pretty much the same as last year. That's the way things go with kids (and adults)memories getting shorter and shorter each year. We're not going to improve our recruiting until we improve on the field, so I don't understand why people would get worked up at this point. Start the season strong and we can get some of these kids to flip and get a lot more of the ones that haven't decided. Start off poorly and the sky really will be falling.
