yay another 3 star.. Whats next? Oh yeah.. the same beatdowns next year. As long as we keep getting excited over 3 star players.. we will continue getting pounded by everybody.
This sucks

Another uninformed fan. Don't get too caught up in "stars". Guess how many stars this years Heisman trophy winner had. Exactly, Manziel was a three star recruit for Texas A&M

This 3 star plays in Broward County down here in South Florida against great competition so you can't go off 3 star stuff. Miami and Ft. Lauderdale is probably the toughest high school competition in football in the country.

I think it's a great 1st commit towards building that South Florida pipeline!

I checked Rivals earlier today after this... they still had us out of top 25 and 2nd to last only to Kentucky in the SEC

I am not too worried about this until some time in February. It is kinda meaningless at this point for us.

LSU offered him too...

I would tell you to stop trusting magazines and websites to back their opinions in no way shape or form and just throw out arbitrary stars ...to shape the opinions of the average fan

Look at what the professional coaching staffs are doing. They back their evaluations by offering a paid education and a very valuable spot on their team . They are putting money on their evaluations. Offers offers offers.

This particular kid is not killing it in terms of offers but he hold 5 SEC offers and 9 other offers. If his offers were from mid-majors only ...I would be concerned. Plus he is an EE and offered by several schools that have high admission standards ....so you have a good idea that he will at least give himself a chance off the field which gives him a much better chance on the field.

Meaningless to us, but you can bet that other coaches are pointing it out to the players we need if we're going to get back where we want the program to be.

"Of the 327 players invited to last year’s combine, more than half were three-star, two-star or no-star players coming out of high school. In fact, nearly one-third were three-star guys — KU’s most recent recruiting class is made up of 21 such players — and the number of combine attendees who were not ranked by the oh-so-popular star system coming out of high school more than doubled the number of five-star studs on the list."

Here’s the breakdown:

5-star prospects — 24
4-star prospects — 80
3-star prospects — 102
2-star prospects — 69
0-star prospects — 52

The moral of this story? If they're good enough for the NFL, they're good enough for Tennessee. Stars don't mean jack.

Is anyone else as sad as I am that our program has been resorted to "oh well if Auburn and LSU offered then he must be great!" I miss the days and hope we return to the days of other schools using us as the measuring stick!

When, exactly, were those days?

Kind of a skewed stat since it does not take into account the fact that there are a lot mor 2 an 3 star players than there are 4 and 5 stars. If you go by percentages, there is a higher percentage of 4 stars drafted than 3 and a higher percentage of 5 stars than 4 stars.

Jesus people, do research before you post ****, pretending that you know what you are talking about. I'm so ****ing sick of people acting like they know what's going on, and providing misinformation.
Maybe a coach or 2 had previously worked on Auburns staff, and just maybe, those coaches were recruiting said commit when they were At AU.
Our "staff" that scouted and went after it as you said, didn't do **** but offer a guy who was already committed to them at AU.

Take a chill pill, nancy. The coaches name is tommy thigpen and according to scout he was the recruiter for Johnson at AU.

However, I would say that if the kids been offered, our Head Butch in Charge did at least take a look at him before handing him a scholly...

Don't be so full of yourself, it's Christmas

People also forget about the 4* and 5* players that turn out to be a total BUST.

Fact is there's lots more 3* guys playing in the NFL then there are 4* and 5* guys and the higher the dumb star rating many times also means the worse attitude and work ethics they have because they'reima donna types that think they already know everything and try to get by on ability alone and don't develope well at all until their Junior or Senior year when some of them finally wake up and see the NFL isn't really interested in them.

I'll take a smart 3* that will keep his grades up to stay on the team and will take coaching seriously and work hard to get better and better over a prima donna 4* or 5* every time.

You also forget there's many thousands of kids that rivals and nobody else even sees or ranks because the star ranking system is badly flawed and very overhyped.

We mostly only see a kids highlight reels but coaches see entire games and every play from several games sometimes and sees things we don't see like consistent mistakes that coaches can easily correct to make the kid an excellent position player.

We don't even know for certain what position our coaches may be recruiting him to play.

Relax people and let our coaches do their jobs for 3 or 4 years and then see what they've put together to run their systems because CBJ HAS won alot at every place he's been.

Just support our program and leave the negative garbage for a politics forum, LOL.

VFL...GBO!!!

I'm still trying to get a reply on what that little episode was all about. He was responding to my post that was simply arguing against the fact that AU and/or LSU are the litmus test that we are judged against. They saw talent. We saw talent. We got talent.

I seriously doubt UT's offer decision in this case was: "Ooh, we know nothing about this guys, but AU and LSU went after him... And they're better than us... So, let's throw our hat in the ring and see what happens."

That was a strange response. I'm hoping that it was due to something that can be slept off.

3.3 GPA translates into a person who has his head on straight and normally one who has a positive impact on the rest of the team.
