Less Mo Couch for Vols on Saturday

Lack of transparency and politics is no way to endear yourself to the fan base. Maybe Butch needs a black stripe as well.

he does not owe the fanbase anything when it comes to situations like this. He answers to the university and is there to provide for and instruct his players

Wth are you talking about? How does CBJ have anything to do with this? This all happened before he became our coach and he knew nothing about it. With him just finding this out yesterday, he was very smart by not making any comments about it other than what he did say. He also had to be very careful what he said about Couch too at this point before more facts come out. I don't see where there is a lack of transparency or politics here at all. Good grief.

Again: UT was not a part of the process, so there will be no UT penalties. It may effect a few wins on the record. It may effect Couch's eligibility.

Don't see how you can state that UT won't receive future penalties over this. Couch is a UT player and participated in games for UT while receiving extra bennies (alledgedly). If true, UT could get more sanctions than they have now. I suspect Couch has played his last game until he is cleared or deemed ineligible by the NCAA. And I don't see that coming quickly.

I would much rather the university be upfront here. Nobody believes the reason is heat exhaustion and we could have sent a message that we take compliance very seriously. Missed opportunity IMO.

University? Butch Jones specifically in one article. If he said it's the reason, but really a wait and see @ Yahoo, uhhh then what does that say @ him?

Uh, no. If what I read earlier is truly a quote, then Butch has spoken to this publicly. This ain't @ pre-CBJ, but the "heat exhaustion story".

I just hope they don't vacate all our wins for the last two seasons! Oh wait. :-/

But we need him over Hood! (Sarcasm)
We did, dumbazz. He's much bigger, and has done nothing but produce since he's been here. Hood had a whopping total of 7 tackles in 4yrs...so go try and run those numbers again, and see how sound your logic is. :loco:

I was saying the exact same thing last night in the main yahoo story thread and all I got was getting pounced upon for saying it... I really do wish you guys well. But unfortunately I know the West Coast media is only going to pounce upon it more and more...

Wrong. That is why a team with a player under an unproven "accusation" SHOULD NOT come out and say "we are pulling [player] from the game because of the accusation." Can you imagine the strategy that would play out? Bingo journalist leads next with, "DAT Accused of Grade Tampering!" And so on...

Its always something with our program right when things were starting to click real good. Now we are going in to oregon half cocked. We don't have the depth for players to be missing games. Hopefully some of our other players step it up this saturday. GO VOLS!

He did say this on Vol Calls last night. I can't get the link to work, but this is what he said "The only thing I can comment on right now is what we’ve done since we’ve been here. And we take great pride in our personal growth and development football program that we have in place, our agent compliance and our agent education, but our rules compliance as well. We have a compliance officer right in our football office and they meet with our football team on a regular basis. I think that’s the cornerstones of our football program. Everyone—every person—has a track record and I think if you look at our track record of myself and our coaching staff, it speaks volumes. All I can tell you is we are well aware of it. We’ve been educating our players since the minute we walked in the door and we’ll see what happens.”

What more do you want???

Exactly. If it were that easy I would have gone public on Monday and told ESPN that I sent money to Marcus Mariota.

Best we can hope for is that Mo doesn't cost us any wins this year. I'm worried about team focus, replacing mo, bowl game bans or something much bigger from the ncaa.

I'm also very worried about losing high ranking recruits.

The only way this could get worse is if mo and bray were using the money for lawyers in a rape defense case (aka Vandy). In bray's case that would involve a beer bottle no doubt.

NOTHING has been proven thus far and those of you demanding Couch be kicked off the team need to chill! For the time being Couch is still a Vol and deserves our support until someone proves otherwise. At the very least, you would think that our own fanbase would give one of our own players the benefit of the doubt before throwing him under the bus based on nothing more than a Yahoo article.

Even if these allegations are true, how can anyone really prove it? I mean $1,300 ain't buying you much these days. So, no one can really point to some extravagant life style and say that something shady was definitely going on. Unless the runner or the agents involved were cutting checks out of their bank accounts payable to these players by name or the players themselves made deposits of the exact amounts alleged in their own bank accounts, I don't see how the NCAA could ever prove anything from a paper trail stand point. This is exactly why Manziel got off with a slap on the wrist.

Maybe he did take the money, knowing it was against the rules. If so, then he deserves whatever punishment comes his way. He endangered the careers of every one of his coaches and team mates by doing it, not to mention the potential damage it could cause the entire program. Regardless though, I don't believe it is right to jump to the worst possible conclusion and call for the head of one of our own guys until there is more evidence to support the claims of impropriety.
