I don't know if that's an exaggeration about TN allowing carry permits but not student IDs but if so TN is becoming more and more backwards with each passing day.

one is a state issued ID and one is not. What's the problem?

how was the student able to prove who they were in order to obtain the student ID?

Seems to me this is the most heavily advertised issue of the election. No one can say they weren't informed.

Birth certificate? SS card? You don't need a photo ID to get into college. Also, going by your point, they proved who they are to get the college ID. Ergo it should be valid.

except it's not issued by the state. Should my work ID also be acceptable?

Go use those same documents and get a state issued ID if you want to vote. Simple enough that a student at UT should be able to figure it out

Law says it has to be a state issued photo ID, you might convince me a state school ID should work. Not a private school.

If I work for myself, I should be able to use my employee badge! Outrage!

Why shouldn't those documents be enough to vote with? SS cards are issued by the Fed.

as I said, it's no different than my company issued ID badge. Plenty of time left to go get a state issued ID if you want to vote. Heck, they're even free

If you are a registered voter and do not have a government-issued photo ID, the Department of Safety and Homeland Security will provide you with a photo ID at no charge.
or you could organize a group outing

To minimize wait times, groups or organizations planning to bring several people to the centers for photo IDs are encouraged to make appointments by calling Linda Cone at 731-225-0924 or Wanda Adams at 615-251-5309.

So I could take your SS card and BC and go vote?

I guess if you steal my SS card and birth certificate, which I don't keep in the same place. Then find out what district I vote in and beat me to the polls then you can have my one vote.

Currently, voting is a protected and free privilege for all American citizens (minus some ex-cons in some states) 18 and older; however, in my experience, state issued photo ID cards (driver's license) cost money. If you must have a state issued photo ID card to vote, then you must pay to vote. How is this separate from a poll tax and/or a financial price for citizenship?

I just posted a link that says it is free in TN

You need an ID to cash a govt check, drive, buy alcohol/tobacco, etc. How many voters do none of those?

Honestly, if you presented a work badge with your SSC or BC and voter registration card then yes I think you should be able to vote.

Voter fraud is so minuscule that no one is capable of going to such lengths on a scale large enough that it would have a real impact on the election.

When did that change? Says here that it is $12.50.

If you don't drive or don't have a valid driver's license for any reason, you have the option of obtaining an expiring identification license for proof of identity.

Expiring identification license applicants must apply in the same way and present the same documents as required of a driver's license applicant, and the licenses will expire in the same way as a regular driver's license. However, yours won't expire anymore once you're 65 years old or older.

The fee for an expiring identification license is $12.50.

Applying for a New Tennessee DMV Identification Card at DMV.org: The DMV Made Simple

Addendum: Yep, read your link. It appears that the state of Tennessee needs to update their DMV site so that they are not providing misinformation and potentially dissuading voters.

I guess we should also provide free shuttles to anyone who needs to get to the DMV in order to obtain said identification.

I would assume it changed with the requirement but don't know. I haven't lived in TN for a while

For a couple hundred years we seemed to have gotten by without this. What problem are we solving by adding additional requirements?
