Correct me if I am wrong.
A Naturalized Citizen is not an illegal.

edit:
A naturalized citizen is a foreign national who is granted citizenship in the United States after fulfilling certain requirements.

Correct me if I am wrong, but how many latinos do you know that are not illegal aliens? Trick question. They are all illegal aliens.

I am for the voter ID laws.
I think they should be done in a way that does not keep those legally eligible to vote from voting.
The timing of some of these laws look suspicious.

Please. You don't really think any if these measures, adopted only in states with far right GOP legislatures, has anything to do with voter fraud, do you ?

Lets just call it what it is -- throwing up hurdles to make it tougher to vote for the opposing party.

Hurdles? I'm just having a real hard time seeing this as anything more than a minor inconvenience at best. People keep asking how many attempts at voter fraud will this actually stop. Well I'll ask how many people do you actually think are just incapable of obtaining this ID. I'm not taking about people who are just negligent and just don't get one. I mean people who literally don't have the means to get to the DMV and get one some time in the next 6 weeks.

In many cases, it may be hard for someone to obtain their birth certificate to get a state issued photo ID. If they have moved to a different state for instance. The last time I got my license renewed I had to get a copy of my BC from the health dept first. I had to make an appointment to get it. Fortunately they were kind enough to squeeze me in the same day I requested it. Otherwise I would have had to wait another two days. This was in my home town that I was born in. Now imagine if I had been living in another state.

And again, this will not prevent ant type of fraud that would have a meaningful impact on an election.

I was living in AZ and needed by birth cert. Filled out an online form and had it in my hand within a week from GA.

still making way too big a deal out of this

What if you don't have internet access to fill out the form online?

Elderly, poor, minority with no money and no transportation has to gather up documents to prove who they are -- something they might not be able to do with documents on hand -- produce that, get acceptable picture id in advance, to vote.

Yep, "minor inconvenience."

What if you don't have hands?

What if you're blind?

What if you can't read?

What if you're watching Maury Povich and it's a really good episode and it was closed when you got there because you missed your bus?

so, someone with 4 years of notice can't get an ID and we're OK with letting them vote?

Ms Ida at my church turned 90 in August, she has her ID and told the whole congregation they had no excuse not to get theirs. We've been holding voter registration every Sunday after service. Care to guess what kind of church I attend?

Wow, to read some of these posts you would think these laws were just passed yesterday and not over a year ago.

No simpathy, if you want to vote, you have had ample time to get an ID. People in several other countries risk the threat of violence to vote, we have it pretty easy.

I love the mentality we have in this country that everything should just be so freakin easy. No one should ever have to put the slightest effort into anything. Not one of those "hurdles" you just mentioned are anything more than well... minor inconveniences. I could gather the documents to obtain an ID in a few hours and a week or so later when they arrived in the mail spend another few hours actually gettng the ID. I could do it all using public transportation if necessary and spend probably less than $20.

But you're right... That's just too much to ask fat lazy americans to do. In all honesty I can't believe I have to actually go to the polls. They should bring the ballot to my house to ensure that I'm not inconvenienced in the slightest bit. You know another thing that really pisses me off? Can you believe when I sent in my voter registration form in a few months ago that they expected me pay for the postage? I mean WTF? I thought voting was free but I guess not.
