I don't know why you come in hear spouting off like we wrote the frigging article. It's on the Rivals website and the guy brings up a "quarterback debate". Hell, even you own coach says it's great discussion and since this is a discussion board.......You act like we just insulted your mother or something.
I don't think it in any way "bolsters our own expectations". As our rival in the East, we hope you go winless every year regarldless of how we preform.
The days when Vol fans used Florida as any sort of measuring stick ended when Spurrier left. To judge our own's teams "status" against a team with as many losses as the Gators have the last 4 years would be just silly.(lawgator1 @ Apr 24 said:Do you use drugs, Danny? Read the above? This board is chock full of Gator haters who think that their team is "better" if ours is worse. That may work out in one game, but season-long it is a poor judge of your own team's status.
I don't see how having two solid quarterbacks is negative. It should be a good thing to have a QB controversy this time of year, just don't let it go on too long into the fall (speaking from experience of course).(lawgator1 @ Apr 24 said:I know. I'm just bored because this is the slow season for fun college sports or pro football. As I pointed out in another thread in the regular sports forum, ESPN2 is relegated tonight to showing paintball championships. Very boring time of year for fans of college athletics.
So I figured I would come on here, find some post even remotely negative about UF (now that is a pretty easy thing to find on here, you gotta admit) and then I figured I would manipulate it in such a way as to make it sound bad about UT.
Hey!! I found a new sport!!!

(lawgator1 @ Apr 24 said:Good point. Your measuring stick this year would be what? More wins than losses? I mean, as a realistic starting point given last year. You can build from there of course. Maybe shoot for Music City? Shreveport? Dare I say .... Citrus?

(vol_freak @ Apr 24 said:Actually LG, we have tradition and high expectations for our program. You can say what you want about last year, but it's one year. I know that you guys are still not down off of the high from that 9-3 Outback Bowl season to remember but I guess I would be excited too after three straight five loss seasons.
I would try to at least win 10 games post Spurrier before annointing yourself as the envious program that you think you are.

(lawgator1 @ Apr 24 said:Actually, I agree with that. I want to see some 10 win seasons for a few years before I put us back where SOS had us in the late 90's. I think it is possible we can get back there. I think the talent is there. I think Meyer is promising. The school, the fans, and ther athletic department are supportive. All the ingredients are in place for optimism in Gainesville. Whether the team can actually perform remains to be seen. But it is certainly an exciting thing to anticipate.
I can tell you I think it's going to be very interesting. I have a good friend who is a Gator fan and I have always repsected his opinions. Unfortunately, he is right a lot more than I am. He is not very happy with Meyer and doesn't think he can get the team anywhere near where Spurrier had it. Of couse he uses that against me by saying, "we would have beaten you all by 30 with a good coach".(lawgator1 @ Apr 25 said:Actually, I agree with that. (lawgator1 @ Apr 24 said:Gosh, the lengths you will go to when you want to ding the Gators, "just because." Where do you get a controversy out of this? Meyer says that Leak will start. He also says that Tebow will play. What's the big deal? Makes perfect sense to me.
While UT did try that utterly miserable rotation thing last year, giving up on each of the UT QB's in turn, that is no reason to just basically fabricate a problem in Gainesville to make yourselves feel better about your own debacle last year.
(lawgator1 @ Apr 24 said:Yup.
What is the optimism level in Knoxville?
(QBvol7 @ Apr 25 said:Pretty good. Nobody is giving us much of a chance. Picked to finish 3rd in most publications, maybe 4th. I think Tennessee always does better with lower expectations going into a season. Cutcliffe has restored discpline and the players like it and have a better attitude. Go ahead, assume a victory.
(VolunteerHillbilly @ Apr 25 said:I have to agree with LG on this. You cannot say optimism is high because expectations are low. That is a fallacy. You could say "I am optimistic that the team will exceed the low expectations", but to say I am optimistic becasue expectations are low is just plain silly.
