Let Them Play

The team was taught a double screen on out of bounds plays to get the ball to DD. first and then the second guard. (Even Tea ) scored on this play! We have YET to screen/Pick the zone defenses? (during regular play) I was taught this basketball principle in the 7th grade. DD is best from the foul line and in the paint with jump shots. Why don't we help her get there and watch her be successful. Throwing the ball around and everyone standing and watching is not an offense scheme or play. Trying to get the ball to Russell. And if I ever threw her the ball inside and she threw it into the back court. She may never see the ball again unless she gets my rebound.

And I was taught to attack the seam of the zone to draw the defense. These guards are lining up with the zone and standing around. SMH... hard to watch! :cray:

There were some funny posts on here. I remember one person last year after the first 3 or so games said that Tennessee would have 2 of the 5 best centers (Mercedes and Nia) this year. Others have stated that coming in, Mercedes would by default be one of the top 5 centers in the game. There was a thread feigning outrage how Mercedes was "disrespected" by some media votes for Ruth Hamblin as the top center in the game (even though Ruth was an AA last season).

Personally speaking, Mercedes is producing about what I expected her to this season. On paper, she's been good, but watching her play, I 100% agree that she has the physical tools to be more aggressive.

I stand as one of the person saying that and will stand on my beliefs based on what I saw in the Olympics and in High School (had the luxury of seeing many of these girls play on the AAU circuit as my sister was in the same recruiting year as Russell). With a better coach who knows how to Coach post players she would be dominant and she doesn't have that. I have saw her "in person" dominate a game and be physical but when you aren't demanded to give your best and your coach blames everyone else for not giving you the ball and you know you wont be bench, you tend to do as you please. If she was playing under Muffet, Geno, Kim Mulky (we see what she got out of a non offensive Brittany Griner) Van da Veer, and Sherri Cole she would be looked at as the top Center in the game hand down if I can list some of their post players for you;

Cole-Courtney Paris (Nancy Mulkey)
Mulkey-Griner (Kalani Brown)
Geno-Lobo, Tamika Williams, Tina Charles, Stephanie Dolson
Van da Veer-Nndeka, Chiney (Wasn't Center but played there when needed)
Muffet-Ruth Riley, Brianna Turner

If a player's play is a cancer to the team. If she is causing chemistry issues. Then it is up to the coach to correct it. You coach the player and if she doesn't respond to coaching then you use someone else.

Yup or you Suspend them/Kick them off the team
