I am really excited about the game and feel that it is meaningful. Yes we have lost 3 critical players but this game is on the coaching and staff.

The staff's ability to fill the voids and scheme will be what I am looking at in this game. Identify the void, issues and plan.

This game is not about missing players as it is so much about how the Coaching Staff devises a game plan to win this game both on the Offensive and Defensive side of the ball.

3 weeks of planning and we will see what our coaching staff is capable of and their ability to prepare a team for a game.

It’s only become meaningless because of players and money. Former players before all this BS would give their right testicul th play in the Orange Bowl! Now it’s all about me attitudes!
Our game is no more meaningless than Alabama's game and they have zero players opting out. That's because playing in big post-season games is in their DNA. They wouldn't feel right opting out of a post-season game. Hopefully our players treat this game seriously so that when they are in the playoffs next year it won't be the first time they've prepared for a big post-season collegiate game.

I’m really not trying to sound like a smart alec here, because I can see you’ve not been on the board long so you may not know. The blue font indicates sarcasm, so the poster you’re replying to agrees with you. Maybe he added the blue after your reply though idk
Thanks for the tip (didn't know) but apparently neither did a lot of other posters based on the comments. Regardless, that kind of comment is going to have a lot of backlash. lol Thanks again!

The Vols better show up and be ready to play this game , because I know Clemson will be there and wanting to show out and beat the Vols down to make a statement about the ACC being a legit conference.

This is basically the ACC's National Championship game.

All of that, and a lot of exposure and revenue for the school and program. And a lot of players will be putting on the pads for the last time before getting on with their post-college lives.
Fans who take this stuff way too personally and seriously will continue to use the straw man "meaningless" argument to marginalize the realities of what bowl games like this are about at this point.
I agree with you. For this year. What is going to happen to the Bowls when the CFP is expanded? I think the Bowls will have to reinvent themselves. I’m not against them. I just think they will have to adjust.

Yeah I think bowls will come to an end soon with the 12 team playoff.

I'm not against them at all - they are a reward for a successful season and provide a fantastic opportunity for coaches to see recruits and players who will be a big part of next year's team in practices. And a fun trip for fans.

They won't go away because $$$$$, and they will still provide those benefits to schools that don't make the playoff.

There will be a lot of changes between now and September 2023. We will field a very good team, but we still do not know the details of who will do what.
I think that is the very reason the Orange Bowl is important. How will Milton play and how will Bru,Keyton and Squirrel and others perform. GBO!!!!

Bowls are nothing more than exhibition games. That's what they have always been, unless you're playing for a title.

I don't really care but it's funny to me to look back at the past decade plus and remember it being crucial that we made a bowl and oh Lord the meltdowns if we didn't.

Now....well, you know where I'm going.

It's Christmas and New Year's season. Tennessee is playing football for the last time for 9 months. We could end the season 11-2. It's a major bowl, not the Music City or whatever that one is called that Florida lost in last night, we could be them...have been.

Ho hum?

Whatever.

I dunno about "everybody" else , but I'm psyched that we're in a bowl not named after some commercial or Nashville. It's been way too long.

Stop it. Alabama usually has plenty of opt outs when not playing for the title. These players owe you nothing.

I vehemently disagree!!! Playing in a NY6 Bowl Game is not meaningless!

Thousands of Vol fans are spending thousands of dollars to travel and cheer on the team they love! A team that has had an incredible season, especially compared to the past decade. It's been over 20 years since TN has been in the Orange Bowl. If the game were meaningless, the university wouldn't send its football team and thousands of fans wouldn't attend. I promise you the players who are making the trip to Miami are pumped up and hungry for another VICTORY!

GBO! 🍊🍊🍊 Let's kick some TIGER BUTT!

Obviously you missed the blue font

I didn't make it...
just enjoyed it and shared it...

*after 15+ years of "hype videos" using clips from lost games...it's GREAT to see these from games WON!

Ha, good point. I figured you just posted it. "You" was rhetorical.

Oh I saw it; just didn't know. lol Honestly, I don't care for the blue font thing. Would rather just use an emoji. Thanks for the lesson; won't happen again.

The sarcasm was for the crowd who says it's ok for a "top player" to sit out a meaningless bowl game.

Yeah I get it now and we're of the same opinion. Unless a special circumstance, I think it's selfish for a player to sit out a bowl game. The university brought them in, trained them, nurtured them, paid their way, etc. and I feel it's respectful to play in the bowls for the university and the fans as a way of saying thanks. Yes, there are those who disagree with that opinion, but I will never change my view.

It means a lot of money to the University and others and the experience/fun is important to the fans willing to spend the money. The experience is very exciting for the players that worked hard all season long to get to a major bowl or playoff, (I guess they could feel very let down after being very close to going to the playoffs a month ago). Win or lose, it won’t lessen the players experience of a very successful season capped off with a trip to the Orange Bowl, it will be something they will remember all their lives. A win or loss will not affect my appreciation for what the team has accomplished this year!!!

Money? Lol we lose money on this. Well most teams do.

Not only what you mention but what a slap in the face of the people who came before you and helped lay the foundation for everything you see today. Just a different time I guess. Doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

Lol is right. Think I read that travel expenses for these games last year was like 2.75 million. Not exactly losing money
What did they get paid for being there?
What was the guaranteed amount of tickets UT had to buy?
What was the amount of free tickets, paid at full price, that was occupied by band etc?

Playing in bowls is usually a financial liability. Usually . Hell OSU lost money when they won a BCS game

I don't have those figures but it's in the millions the conference receives for the games then it's split up by the SEC.
