There will not be an assistant or relatively new head coach. UT will allow Hart to make the hire and has been told to go get a proven head coach whether it is NCAA or Gruden. UT cannot afford to continue losing money (last year they lost 5 million) and there is to much pride in the football program to not get it right this time. The board understands that the firing of Fulmer AND Chavis was handled wrong by Hamilton and Hamilton got to hire Lane and Dooley on his own, not this time. There will be input/pressure this time to get it right. Everyone is done with Dooley but nothing will be done until the end of the season officially.

So as of right now, the voters are split on either Gruden or another NCAA coach being hired. That just doesnt add up my fellow BO fans. Seriously, we are going after Gruden because of NFL NFL NFL experience, right? So if the Gruden Dream goes wide right, WHY would we then look to a college coach? I dont get it people?? Seriously, why would anyone on VN NOT want a proven coach in the NFL to lead the Vols? (and it's certainly possible many of these candidates rose out of the NCAA ranks)

I look forward to your responses.

Sure, it adds up. The question was "What will happen?" In other words, what do you think the outcome of a head coaching search will be? A lot of us consider the Gruden connections to be way too tenuous to have real substance and doubt that he would want to get into college coaching again anyway. The alternative? Get the very best NCAA head coach you can possibly land.

KING JOHN GRUDEN!!!!!!I trust the folks saying an agreement has been made..It makes no sense to retain Dools except if Gruden`s already agreed. If not him,I hope we get Franklin or Strong.

^ nope...it's Gruden to UT and the less money argument doesn't work as from all account we are offering him as much as he would be making in the NFL anyway.

A few days ago I would have said a midlevel HC, but it seems this Gruden thing is really starting to heat up, I think I'm believing again.

I am talking about what he is making now... by all accounts he makes around 10 million a year.

Like i said before if Gruden Comes Ill streak at his first game... 6ft 280 or around 300 after the holidays it wont be pretty.

Look, bro, money isn`t everything. Gruden has PLENTY of money. Why would he be worried about a few mil here or there? I believe he`s ready to start coaching again, and he knows he could win at UT. He also knows HE WOULD BE A FREAKIN DEMIGOD IN THE ENTIRE STATE!!! HE WOULD HAVE PEOPLE BOWING BEFORE HIM AND NUTS LIKE YOU STREAKING ACROSS THE FIELD!!!! I believe THAT may be a little more important than money to him. Buy my ticket&I`ll streak with u bro!!!

If Dooley is back I'm finished with UT peroid!

I've had enough embarrassment for a lifetime, Dooley is a joke and if the University of Tennessee doesn't think anymore of it's Football program than this....then why should I?

Do you happen to know how much Dooley makes from a sponsor of him called Adidas?

Edit: 550,000 a year and thats not including other endorsements

I realize that money talks. I'm not calling anyone a lair but John Gruden has it made on MNF. Why in the hell would he leave that to come to UT and put up with all of us (i'll say) moody fans and the committment it takes to run a championship program, when he could just stay where he is and be set for the rest of his life? Not to mention i just think he is a mans coach. By that i mean wants to coach men not college kids.IMHO.

I've been reading since JGI, and I must admit that I was excited at the prospect, but very guarded at first (I normally don't let myself get my hopes up, that way I won't be too disappointed).

But the more I read, and the more people started to corroborate one another's stories, the more convinced I have become.

I am cautiously optimistic, there is a natural tendency in me to not get my hopes up, but I think JG is coming to UT!

We Webbs think alike. I
,as well, have been hopeful he was coming, but I didn`t believe there was a 1% chance a week ago. Now,after reading all the posts and understanding the logic of waiting to fire Dools,I`m 99% sold. Go Vols!!

To some, having an easy life is not enough, they need a challenge to feel alive. I think Gruden wants that challenge.:hi:
