Let's look ahead (Season Discussion)

I feel like we always say things like oh yeah we're going to turn it on and coast through the SEC. Or if we can just do X-X through this next stretch we're a lock. It never seems to work though, not lately.

They just don't show a lot of heart. Maymon is clearly not the same. Proud of the kid for making a come back but he's not the same Maymon he was in 2011. Shooting is terrible, finishing around the basket is terrible, coaching is sub par. Sorry guys, I think we sit out of the tournament for the 3rd straight year.

There's definitely still a reasonable path for us to get to the tournament. We're going to have to play better in conference than we have before though. Right now we're in worse shape at this point than we were last year. We have the same record, but our losses are worse and we don't have a good win. This team easily has the potential to make the tournament, but we can't do anything dumb like get swept by UGA or we'll be sitting on the bubble again. We also have to get some signature wins in conference.

UT really needs that win over UVA. I'm just not sold on Martin's ability to beat tournament level teams away from TBA. He's beaten, what, one tourney team in 3 years outside of TBA (Florida 2012). I don't think Xavier is going to make the tourney, so UVA is Cuonzo's only shot at a resume win at home until February 11th when Florida comes to town.

I am not big on Martin, but I really hope this team can get it done. I was happy with our fg % on Saturday.

I feel good about the UVA game. It really will be a precarious situation if we can win that one.

Gotta start hitting easy buckets under the basket. We missed at least 7 on Saturday, right under the basket!

Yeah, that is what happens when you go up like a tulip, ballerina (Maymon) instead of like a MAN WITH AUTHORITY! This team is soft, plain and simple.

If we go 10-8 and win the rest of our OOC games, UT should get into the Big Dance.

That would put us at 19-11 because the Tusculum games doesn't count. That won't be enough to cut it. I think we need to go 12-6 in the sec and win the rest of our OOC games to be safely in and 11-7 we would have to win 2 or so in the SEC tourney.

Let's give this team the rest of the season before we write them off.

Looking forward, if we can beat NC St, Morehead St, Virginia and Tusculum we will be 10-3 heading into SEC play.

I think most rational posters were hoping for 11-2 in OOC play so that isn't that far off.

@LSU
@KY
@Mizz
@UF
@Bama
UF

Appear to be our toughest SEC games. If we can go 14-4 in the SEC we would be a lock for the NCAA tourney at 24-7 plus the SEC tourney.

There are plenty of opportunities for this team to make the tourney still.

I honestly think we could still win the conference if we get it all together, everyone needs to rally behind the team because the last thing UT athletics in general needs is another coaching search!

Go Vols beat the Wolfpack!

we played a good team and got beat, I didn't think it was a big shook to get beat by them.:)

This is it we either put up and get in the dance or clean your desk out, no way around it been behind coach sense he got here but its time to back up some talk, this is the next year that we always hear about every year, you know wait till next year well this is next year as far as I am concern, I don't think I am begin to hard on coach, this is the year you either do it or look for a new gig.

It's sad that pedigo is making the most sense out of anyone I've read in the past 2 days.

No way we dance without at least 22 wins, and that puts us on the bubble, and we know how that has worked out the past couple of years. This team better win 23+ games or Cuonzo needs to be sent packing.

there is still a lot of basketball to be played yet and it seems to me that CCM teams do better in the 2nd half of the year,hopefully they do well the rest of the way and get into the tournament and play well there

of course,that is a lot of ifs :)

Maybe I'm a debbie downer or just too negative but I just don't see it. I don't think we do well on the road and finish 5th or 6th in the conference. Outside of the first half defense and gameplan (defense that is) against WSU, he has shown me nothing. He seems like a good guy and I love his story but he's not the answer. I want a new coach.

Its bad to say but it looks like all the talent we have on this team is going to waste. I just dont think that Conzo is near ready to coach in the sec. It just seems to me that this team is under performing in a bad way

Yes a man whose leading the Florida series 3-0 and is 21-13 in SEC. CLEARLY, he can't coach in the SEC.

Never, NEVER, made the AA Tourney. never.

:crazy:
I'm sorry but was that what we were discussing? Cuonzo's been a head coach for what 5 years? Some coaches having been coaching for decades and are still hoping for an NCAA birth. He'll make it this year.

:crazy:

21-13 in SEC play is great? Be honest, the SEC sucks compared to other conference's.
Never said SEC play is great or the conference is good. Topic on hand was that Cuonzo can't coach in the SEC.
