Lets take a look at the Hoosiers.

Indiana beat Kentucky, therefore UT will soon have a good basketball program.

Solid logic.

Sadly, if/when Martin does not produce results over the next 2-3 seasons, and if IU is back in the Top 25/15/10 and the NCAA Tournament, the same individuals who are right now making the comparison will be defending Martin saying that Crean simply has better players, and who could not coach with such players, since he is coaching at IU.

What does Indiana's success, or lack thereof, have to do with what happens here? Are we following an Indiana blueprint?

The absurdity of comparing the two programs is laughable. It would be like comparing IU's football program to ours.

2009-2010= 143rd

2010-2011= 133rd

Those are even worse than the site I used to get their SOS (101st and 113th, I believe); however, Hinson took MSU teams with SOSs of 54 and 56 to 22 wins. Makes one rethink exactly what it is that Martin "built" and/or "turned around" at MSU.

Martin could turn out to be a great coach; thus far, he has compellingly demonstrated that he is, though.

I think in 2-3 seaons, the proof will be available for everyone to see.

The detractors in this thread are saying that no comparison can be made between Crean and Counzo at their old gigs. I disagree.

And more to the issue, the OP's point is that it took 4 years to turn IU's pogram around, despite all its tradition and brand-named-ness. Despite the horrible losses to teams way beneath the Hoosiers only a few seasons ago, people now think Crean is the second coming.

Anyone who tries to say that the same can't happen at UT under Martin, at this point, has no leg to stand on.

Anything can happen. The sun could implode tomorrow.

I am saying that Martin has not done anything that demonstrates that he is capable of handling this gig; he has not done anything that demonstrates he is certainly not capable of handling this gig...but, then again, neither have you or I.

Do you know the talent level Hinson inherited and Martin inherited when they took over MSU?

Hinson recruited all the talent that he used in those two seasons; Hinson left Martin the gift of Weems, whom Martin relied upon in his 24 and 26-win seasons, respectively (as well, Martin recruited a JuCo transfer who grew up in the greater KC Metro Area).

Martin took starting five that averaged (aside from Weems who had been redshirted) over 24 minutes a game the previous season (a winning-season for Hinson) and took that team to 11 wins.

That team had won 17 gms. the year before Counzo got there (Read next post and see what they lost). They were picked 2nd to last in the conference in 08-09, and they had to rely on a bunch of transfers. BTW, Martin won 24 games under those circumstances. Alford didn't leave them in that kind of mess when Hinson took over.

As true as that is someone has to beat them out for their spots first.

They already have. It would be tough for a coach to come right in and bench the supposed leaders. The locker room may melt.
Tough decisions to do it so early.

List of teams that Creen has lost to in his time at Indiana:

Saint Josephs's
Northeastern
Lipscomb
Boston University
George Mason
Loyola MD
Iowa x2 (10-22 in 2010, notable loss to UT San Antonio)

You can pickup Assembly Hall, turn it upside down and shake out enough talent from the stands to beat these teams.

Losses happen when you're rebuilding.

You do realize that in CTC's first year he basically had to do that, right? IU at one point had 3 walk-ons starting. In all they returned one senior(only returning scholly), and had 5 freshmen and 6 walk-ons as his roster the first year.

The point of my post was not to compare us to IU but to show everyone to have some patience, I used IU's situation as an example.

Those 5 freshman had more talent than Loyola MD, I can tell you that.
