Let's talk Yemen

Our country has been dealing with attacks from Islamic terrorists before we ever had a Navy, Air Force, or standing Army to drop bombs with. The idea that bombs create terrorism is non-sense. Islam creates terrorism.
That's a typical response from you. It's wrong from beginning to end and doesn't address the issue.

You don’t believe our country has dealt with attacks from Islamic terrorists before we even had a military to drop bombs with?

You should learn some history. It’s not the bombs that created the radicals. That specific religion has always been radical

It's you who should learn history. All of what you wrote is rubbish.

He is at least partially correct: Barbary Pirates. We had to create a navy to go deal with them. We had a very small standing army, but not a formal navy, and certainly not an airforce. not sure if the Marines formally existed before then. but its even part of the Marines song "from the halls of Montezuma to THE SHORES OF TRIPOLI"

The continental Navy was created in 1775 but we didn't have an official standing US Navy until 1794. The Barbary wars were late 1790s/early 1800s (something like that).

There's a big difference between pirates and terrorists. That was his first whopper.

They didn't have any active ships in 1800 when they went to fight. they had to buy several private vessels or dust off a couple they had in dry dock to go fight. just like the standing army was maybe a thousand strong before the war of 1812 or dealing with the pirates.

The USS Constitution, United States and Constellation launched in 1797.

It's a big difference. Piracy is for profit; it's apolitical. Terrorism is to intimidate a population for political aims.

The Barbary pirates motives were not entirely profit driven just as todays terrorists are not entirely about politics. The Barbary pirates were also spreading Islam through their terrorist activities and like today's terrorist the leaders are out for personal profit.

They robbed ships and sold the passengers and crews into slavery. They weren't in it to be missionaries.

What is the aim of their terroristic activity? They don't bomb and kill to make money, they do that to cow the populace. The money's a side benefit.

True, the rank and file terrorist is politically driven after being manipulated by the leaders who are lining their pockets off the misery of their people. Have you ever asked yourself why none of these terrorist groups leaders strap a bomb to their chests or drive the car bomb into the crowd? Why are the Hamas top honchos living in luxury outside of Gaza or the West Bank? They are in it for the money and power, not the politics.
