LG's take on Muschamp and the Gators, generally

2. Muschamp has shown that he can recruit, and word has it from the key signees that his energy level has them sold.

7. One wonders whether Brantley feels like transferring. He constantly hears that he has great potential as a standard drop back passer with NFL possibility, but he finds himself in an offensive scheme that so far does not allow him to flourish.

I would think that Muschamp is begging him to stay and promising to build the O around the passing game next year because, if Brantley left, what kind of message does that send to current and future recruits?

I could recruit in Florida.. geez throw a rock at any AAAAA school and hit a 4 star recruit... it just ain't that hard. He has energy because he landed a great gig. Let's se how long that honeymoon lasts.

If Brantley leaves, that might send a message.. but not much of one really. Moot point though counselor.. he ain't going anywhere.

I live to serve.

You'll note, by the way, that I'm not sold on Florida having as much talent as some folks seem to think.

False modesty is so unbecoming.. All gator fans have it. The team's loaded and ya'll cry about lack of depth. I hear it from gator fans a l l t h e t i m e...

Underwhelmed because Florida should be able to draw a "bigger fish", or underwhelmed because you actually don't think he'll do a good job?

Probably 85% or more of Volnation had never even heard of Derek Dooley a year ago today...just saying.

I'm going to reserve my judgement for down the road a little ways. I hope for the SEC's sake that you are right.

Florida should have been able to draw a fish with head coaching experience.

In regards to Dooley...I was underwhelmed with that hire as well. Jury is still out.

They could have had anyone they wanted. Hell I never even heard talk about them going after Patterson. He is ALREADY what the Gators hope Muschamp will be. He's in the same mold as Nick Saban.

"Underwhelmed" implies some measure of pessimism. While I was surprised we didn't hire a brand name head coach, I can't say I am pessimistic about Muschamp at this point.

On the other hand, I won't even say I am optimistic about him, either. Borderline cautiously optimistic would probably be about right. I read that he's well thought of, good recruiter, energetic, and have no reason to believe otherwise. But at this point I just don't have a strong opinion.

I do note, however, that there is often a contingent of fans from any given rival school that seems ready to condemn him and to mock the hire. I suspect that the people who are touting that line really don't know what they are talking about and are just stuck on Florida having not hired a known commodity.

The naysayers may ultimately turn out to be correct, I don't know. But right now those who say they think he will fail seem motivated more by their own wishful thinking than fact.

I just don't think the guy is all that bright. I try to be objective. FWIW I really didn't want him at UT when they were at the table last year. I wasn't doing backflips over Dooley either.

If he can recruit, maybe it will turn out.

In this situation for me underwhelmed means "I thought maybe Florida could have gotten Stoops/Harbaugh/Patterson".

Maybe Mus was their first choice.

I do hope we start whoopin that ass.

I have a hard time believing he was out first choice, too. I have absolutely no clue as to whether he's bright or not.

Reports say Muschamp getting $2.7million/yr for 5 years. Leaves some room for asst coaches I guess.

Yes, because everyone attends the school which they're a fan of.

I grew up in Kentucky. When I sat in the stands for my first UT game in 1979... yeah I'm old.. so what?... and saw the team run out through the T.. and 86,000 fans (10 times the size of my hometown) going absolutely berserk.. I knew I was home.

Seems reasonable that we would pay him a little less than if he were an established head coach. I am sure that if he were very successful it would be changed upwards.

Let's be honest, its largely a question of what stadium you are in the first time you see a major college football team take the field. For most, its where you go to school. But for many it's being taken with family or friends.
