Limbaugh and the Rams

And btw, for whatever reason, I'm being asked in this thread to defend the notion of barring him in some fashion from being an owner. I don't support that at all. Don't particularly care.

I said I have no problem with him being an owner. If I were a fan of a team and he was trying to buy it, I would be very unhappy and probably not buy tickets anymore. And some players may say they won't play for him.

all because he made a statement saying the media was overrating mcnabb because he was black? was limbaugh completely wrong?

Unfortunately being right or wrong seems of less importance today than "offending" some people. Remember Ben Wright - lost his job because he said women golfers have trouble with the golf swing because their breasts get in the way? There were actually quite a few female golfers who agreed with him and had shared that same opinion prior to his statement. Once the media gets hold of what they think could be an attention grabbing story, logic and reason tends to go to the wayside.

With regard to the comparison of ownership of a team to slavery, we will just observe that no one is making that analogy, and that therefore the right should not be making the claim that the left is arguing that, and then attacking them for something they are not arguing, and leave it at that, shall we?

With regard to the above quoted, I am not sure what you are saying. Who is responsible for whose death, and who is it that is playing with them when they shouldn't be? Elaborate please.
I really dont like you at all. Best wishes...VOLnVEGAS

But its a far cry between that and making thinly veiled remarks encouraging the mentally unbalanced to take pot shots at someone.

Wow! You did it again. You demonize RL as a talk show host by saying he incites violence then wonder why people are scared of him. If his words incite reactions in people then surely the collective voice of over the top RL critics such as yourself will have the same effect on others.

There is a straight line from your scathing critiques of RL and the reaction of Rams fans and players.

(assuming we buy your ridiculous theory about RL inciting violence)

Maybe Sharpton should worry more about his business ventures..

"On May 9, 2008, the Associated Press reported that Sharpton and his businesses owed almost $1.5 million in unpaid taxes and penalties. Sharpton owed $931,000 in federal income tax and $366,000 to New York, and his for-profit company, Rev. Al Communications, owed another $176,000 to the state.[8]
On June 19, 2008, the New York Post reported that the Internal Revenue Service had sent subpoenas to several corporations that had donated to Sharpton's National Action Network. In 2007 New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo began investigating the National Action Network, because it failed to make proper financial reports, as required for non-profits.[80] According to the Post, several major corporations, including Anheuser-Busch and Colgate-Palmolive, have donated thousands of dollars to the National Action Network. The Post asserted that the donations were made to prevent boycotts or rallies by the National Action Network.[81]"

No, because even if one puts aside his latent (and sometimes active) racism, he is generally a hatefilled windbag, who uses every basic logical fallacy in the book to fool his mindless repeat listenership. He is a a caricature of the coddled and none-too-bright corporate fat cat. He is mean, arrogant, selfish, judgmental, and a hypocrite. He is the penultimate, classic, Grade I, total a-hole jerk that in person everyone loathes.

He does not incite it. But he makes no secret of the fact that he wouldn't be real upset by it. Oh, he'd feign a wee bit of "We are better than this," but he'd in the next breath say, okay, well, what do we expect after electing someone so bad for the country?

You are digging the hole deeper and deeper. If extreme words CAN serve as a catalyst for hateful behavior (as you have suggested over and over) your description in the first paragraph is Exhibit A in the kind of words used against RL.

If Rams players hate RL it must be because people like you have characterized him the way you have.

Maybe you are simply feigning a wee bit of you are better than this about the flap over RL while secretly loving it - I mean what do you expect if a "penultimate, classic, Grade I, total a-hole jerk" tries to buy a pro-football team.

I mean, that's how people think - you've told us so yourself.

and yet, a few posts earlier you said that if Rush were to be a minority owner of your favorite NFL team, you would no longer buy tickets.

sounds like you do care.

I'm going to try to get Rush to donate some money to Florida in the hopes Ben Hill Griffin Stadium will be renamed.

They treat Limbaugh like he's a convicted felon. But real convicted felons, like Michael Vick, they allow to play. So much hypocrisy.

I guess words can actually do damage... Rush has been dropped and is no longer involved in the purchase.

CNN pulls out all the stops to fact check Saturday Night Live but they can't be bothered to research whether or not Rush said the things they claimed he did.

This how you become a Pulitzer Prize winner??? By writing this stuff...

Hunter is the author of notable works of literature - "Pimpology: The 48 Laws of the Game," "Don't Blame It on Rio: The Real Deal Behind Why Men Go to Brazil for Sex"and "On the Down Low: A Journey Into the Lives of "Straight" Black Men Who Sleep With Men"

Yeah, this is pathetic. It's not like the NFL doesn't have plenty enough controversial players, coaches, and owners in it already.

It's interesting that the same left that decries his smear tactics feels completely justified in using them against him.

Who does that sound like. Seems like he posts on this board...Nah; can't put my finger on it.

Dan Patrick put it very well this morning: Limbaugh's anti-minority comments over the years should not be viewed as an automatic disqualifier for his application because he has a right to say whatever he wants. At the same time, he has to acknowledge that his comments have consequences. That is, he cannot make a living by saying controversial things, and then be unhappy when those things come back to haunt him in this fashion.
