Lindsey Nelson Stadium,

had no clue he ever coached here. that's interesting.

As for the dimensions.. it would really be nice if we could go back to 330-400-330 configuration.
Yeah, they never really moved the fence closer to home plate, the stadium just kept getting closer to the wall. They saved a lot off footage by reducing foul territory behind the plate. I'm ok with the fence distances, the small foul territory is the biggest advantage our offense has. How many more swings do the Vols get with balls into and over the nets.

What did Hudson Field look like?

From 1989-90

In hindsight, that old configuration would have been perfect for long-single level grandstands that are popular now

I understand why they built LNS like they did because they needed facilities under the stadium but a single level of grandstand seats from right fair pole and all the way down to the left corner and back around to center field would have looked quite nice. And would have allowed watching games from frat house patios and roofs.

Some of the off air discussion on Basilio today was that they've ran into "utility" issues around LNS so that may delay things.

(I know, I know...its Basilio. So standard disclaimer there. But it does seem the dirt has quit moving around there in the last few weeks.)

So it was on the same site as LNS? Looks like they just renovated it and tossed a new name on there
Yeah.

Upper Hudson Field is now called Haslam Field and Lower Hudson Field is called Lindsey Nelson Stadium (at least for now)
The footprint of the actual field is largely the same. As the grandstand expanded, home plate moved closer to the outfield fences.
The original Lindsey Nelson Stadium grandstands were well elevated above the field. The current MVP seats were added to the front between the dugouts, The wall you see above the dugout roof is where the grandstand originally ended.

The outfield camera view of home plate, batter, catcher and ump during games showed no seats or fans in the background; just high walls with BIG GREEN PADS.

Asked this in the dugout thread - anyone ever bought SRO tickets at LNS? Was wondering how the experience is from there or if tough to actually see the game over others? Thanks!

Yeah.

Curious why our field is often referred to as a bandbox. The dimensions seem very similar to most all of the regional fields I saw recently. Now if it was oriented in such a way that the normal prevailing winds blew out to center, then I would understand.

It's a young man's game.
The SRO is expanded now with the new "wing" to the stadium.
Get their early and find a spot on a drink rail and stay there. Make friends.
I do note that the standers are more uptight than the sitters.

Wear comfortable shoes. Substance over style
If you're older and "heavy"; pre medicate with NSAIDs

The fence dimensions are not that abnormal. There is very little foul territory and it seemingsly gets smaller every few seasons. So guys get lots of extra hacks as foul outs are more rare.

You can stand pretty much anywhere on the concourse now, getting tickets at the ticket office a couple hours before the game is an affordable way to go
