When Vescovi is ready to return, I like him coming off the bench as the sixth man option with his shoulder issue.

James and Phillips are both slasher type guys that can drive to the basket and collect points in the paint and possibly get fouled as well.

What does the board think of this idea?

I don’t think putting your best shooter and arguably best player on the bench is likely a good idea, but what do I know?

James CAN get to the basket, but chooses not to 99% of the time. That is his biggest problem. He does NOT like to attack.
Correct. James has been a solid college player for 4 years but he never has been aggressive to the rim despite having all the physical attributes to do so. Has a very good mid-range game which he started to show about 3/4 the way through last year.

I agree. Plus Z has told Barnes he prefers to come off the bench. Key could run point but Vescovi can get the offense going quicker w his three ball, etc.

TN needs Phillips to get more touches as he is very athletic and can get to the rim or shoot the jumper. He just needs more touches to develop more confidence imo. Barnes even said that he told Phillips that they need him to be more aggressive. I think he will come on strong, esp in Feb, and help the Vols make a run in March.

He wins a lot of the opening tips. It would take a lot of video research to get the exact count. I think he’s lost the last two, but not certain. At Miss State it was a really lame toss.
Agreed on that toss - it barely left the official’s hand before the State guy swatted it! Also, I thought if you didn’t get the opening tip then you got the out of bounds to start the second half? Apparently I didn’t understand as I thought Miss State got the ball?

The team that loses the opening tip gets the possession arrow. They can get awarded a possession before the start of the second half and flip the possession arrow to the team that won the opening tip.

By the way, who at MSU thought it was a good idea to have their dog along the side court? Almost every animal is kept away from the court. I'm just glad he went for the ball and not JJJ.
Yeah, a dog right there is just not smart. It seems the ladies’ expression was more like “you better not hurt my dog.”

Nope. And how is JJJ considered a slasher?

I like the lineup with Phillips and James at the wing but i'm not sure why people keep saying James is a driver or a slasher. Am I missing something that others are seeing. That has never been his game.
Not the best at finishing when he does either. Can’t or don’t ever use his right hand to finish. Vescovi doesn’t use his either.

This. And it happened as we won a tied up jump ball in the first half, which gave the possession arrow back to State. I believe it was ZZ that tied up a defender.

I agree with you BTO and I wouldn’t call JJJ a slasher either IMO… with his build & abilities he should be getting 6 or 8 Fts attempts a game instead of 2.
He used to be more of a slasher, but he never could finish at the rim despite his size. Drew lots of contact and shot lots of FTs, but rarely ever finished the drive.
