Lineup Suggestion

Speaking of lineup changes, Volquest mentioned in the warroom to look for more small ball with JJJ back to “full strength”, and very likely even a starting lineup shakeup that would be Key, Santi, Phillips, James & Nkamhoua to start games.
I’m no coach, but I like our 5’s better than I like the inconsistent ON. I could see moving JJJ into more of Key’s minutes before going smaller unless we can’t stay in front of the other team. JMO

Hmmmmmm.....
I will opine that is NOT the starting 5 at LSU; I expect UROS to jump. I will bring crow to the table and eat my fair share if you are correct.

I’m guessing the staff likes the ceiling of Nkamhoua and feels he has the potential to raise the ceiling of the team the highest…regardless of who the 5 is though I would expect they’ll be on an extremely short leash and the staff will have high expectations.

I never said it would be this next game, just that it’s something likely coming according to VQ, and makes sense with James return. IIRC you also claimed Barnes wouldn’t play anyone over 30mpg and Vescovi is currently at 32mpg and Zeigler will likely be over 30mpg after the next game or two as well, so eat that crow first before you get too full! Lol

I agree. Plus Z has told Barnes he prefers to come off the bench. Key could run point but Vescovi can get the offense going quicker w his three ball, etc.

Or slower if he's not hitting. Live by the 3, die by the 3.

Certainly like the use of the term “full strength”.

Now, now ... that is a straw man. I believe I said something along the lines of ... Barnes would like to get great balance with all his key players averaging no more than 25 mpg. ... and ... Barnes frequently mentions 25 mpg... blah blah blah ....
Also, I think I posted that my prediction was that JJJ WOULD play over 30 minutes per game. But injury has decreased JJ's numbers and inflated others.
JJ's missed games & Santi's missed games and picking up 2 quick fouls are elements making the numbers of key players go up in some games ... ZZ played 40 minutes @ MS State - that is NOT a plan for success. That is foolhardy, but given the roster options ... Barnes had no other reasonable choice.
Barnes' overall idea (I think) is that keeping players fresh, developing players and creating depth are more advantageous at tournament time and live action of players on the court is essential to their development over time.
Then, at tournament time, play your key players for as many minutes as the are able to play.

So probably gonna be 6 at 25+ going forward? I’d say 5 for sure, Key being question mark…I think Zeigler, Santi, Phillips, James & Nkamhoua (could be close to) will be 25+.

Vescovi is the key player for Tennessee impacting offensively and defensively. I believe his period of poor shooting was mostly due to left shoulder injury (Vescovi is left handed). His overall play is probably worth about 14 points offensively and 8 points defensively. He needs to be on court as much as possible !!

Probable starting 5 against LSU is

Key
James
Phillips
Nkamhoua
Plavsic

He used to be more of a slasher, but he never could finish at the rim despite his size. Drew lots of contact and shot lots of FTs, but rarely ever finished the drive.
When? High school? He’s average less than 2 Fts a game his entire career. I love this kid but this facet of his game has always baffled me.

I think ON is better suited for a more wide open small ball game. If Tennessee can make it that type of game, he can thrive.
