Lockout may be close to over

A player they're speaking to on NFL live actually just contradicted the report, saying there's no vote currently scheduled for tomorrow, nor was there really one scheduled for today, since more time was going to be needed to fully read and fully understand everything that was given this afternoon

Note, not that one won't happen, there just isn't one currently scheduled

A good point brought up about this is that everything that happened today was just about pushing the PR more than anything else

Kirk Morrison was on before the Bills rep anf he seemed more hopeful a vote could happen Friday.

Mortensen's reporting though that the full detailed proposed agreement didn't come in until the end of the phone conference

Don't believe the hype. There will not be any missed regular season games. The HOF game was cancelled, but that's not a big deal at all. The rest of the preseason will be preserved, and I stand by that 100%.

I don't believe for a second that either party is so committed to not signing a deal that they'll miss the opportunity to make money. In fact, the players are full of crap. Does anyone really think they're going to sacrifice significant money or miss a year of their short careers based on principle? No way. Not in this over-leveraged society.

Not worried. All this stuff is offseason theater. That's it.

Under the proposed CBA the 45 active game day rosters will be expanded to 46 and the 3rd QB rule is gone. Gives teams who only carry two QBs an extra player which is good.

Same. Weeks 16 and 17 are already near-meaningless, save some divisional battles between .500-ish teams in the NFC west or whatever for the last spot. An 18 game schedule would make for a very boring last month of the season, and on top of that would make it many many times more unlikely for a team to ever run the table again.

It would also make Roger look like a hypocrite.

Let's improve player safety by adding 2 more games to the schedule.

We could drastically improve player safety by eliminating the schedule altogether and just playing the All-Star game.

Also, if the season length were increased, teams would clinch their seeding later, as well. You would still have one or two boring weeks, but they would be later.

That being said, I'm pretty sure I agree that the season should stay like it is, so our best football isn't used up by the playoffs.

Probably see more players on losing teams getting frustrated in the final weeks and taking it out on contenders if they add 2 more games. If you're all but eliminated after 12 games(like 6-6 or worse), there is a good chance guys will be pissed off at some point over the final 6 games and look to lay some wood. That's like 250-300 more opportunities on the defensive side of the ball when your playoff hopes are out the window. It only takes one play/hit on a star QB, RB, WR etc. to potentially ruin another teams Super Bowl chances.

It looks like both sides, in the end, are going to get what they want. Owners are going to get more $$$ and players are going to get a better quality of life. (Although I must say boo to the two-a-days rule.)

NFLPA should have placed a gag order on it's members on Thursday though. The "issues" ended up not being nearly as bad as what some of the players made it out to be.

What the hell kind of reasoning is that?

"The last two weeks are boring so we added 2 games to delay the meaningless games".

That's stupid.

Leave the schedule at 16 games
