Good for Chris. I bet it was something to watch. I was hoping he would at least get a chance at the NBA. Probably my all time favorite Vols bb player.

The trouble is that you have to be able to do multiple things in the NBA. As much as I loved Chris and JaJuan as players, they just aren't NBA caliber players. Even though, JaJuan almost cracked the Mavericks lineup.

Ask JJ Reddick how much just being able to shoot helps you in the league.

If JaJuan keeps at it he'll eventually be in the NBA.

I can't believe that after 5 years of knowing JaJuan Smith, Vols fans still cannot spell JaJuan's name correctly

No one said he wouldnt be able to do some scoring at the next level. His scoring ability isnt what made him undrafted, it was his defense. He isn't athletic enough to guard NBA shooting guards who are not only quicker than him but about 6'6

Actually, I believe his drawback was the fact that he had just been through cancer treatment and was considered much weaker than is necessary.
The year before, basically when he was diagnosed, he was stronger and working on his driving ability. During the treatment, he couldn't do anything. At all. He was basically bedridden. The fact that he lost all that conditioning severely injured his draft possibilities.
Plus, even though it sounds bad, draft picks are high risk all on their own. Add in something as serious as cancer, and you could be looking at possibly too much of a risk. No matter how bad it appears, it is something that needs to be taken into account.
It's tough to warrant using a pick on a guy that you know was at half the athlete he used to be. Losing a year of training and production could have affected him for the rest of his life. He could have never been the same.

...Luckily he's still Chris Lofton.

I don't see the obsession with the NBA any way. Chris was never going to make Lebron type money, and he can make more than a decent living over seas if he continues to play well.

None of that is the reason CLo is playing in Europe. His size and athleticism are the reasons.

Why did his athleticism take an insane shot all of his senior year? He had no way to build his strength with all the treatment...Believe it or not, cancer is a serious problem that affects everything.

Please show me evidence of athletic ability during Chris Lofton's freshman, soph or junior seasons

Sophomore year. 30 games played.
Junior year. 31 games played.
Senior year. 36 games played.

Sophomore year. 112 shots attempted that weren't 3s.
Junior year. 175 shots attempted that weren't 3s.
Senior year. 119 shots attempted that weren't 3s.

Sophomore year. 60 free throw attempts.
Junior year. 159 attempts.
Senior year. 120 free throws.

In 5 fewer games, and over 150 minutes less, Lofton attempted 54 fewer 3s, but only made 12 fewer. In the same aspect, though, he took 2 more shots than his senior year and got to the line 39 more times.
In his junior year, he developed a move to the basket that everyone noticed. He knew that he had to be able to drive or else he wasn't going to survive in the NBA. After his conditioning took a severe shot, he drove less, drew fewer fouls, and resorted to the outside shot 72% of the time. That is up a ton from the 59% the year before.
Tell me, based on this info, that he didn't have athletic ability before the cancer.

I will give you that he didn't have defense, but that isn't the reason he wasn't drafted.

His defense, along with his height, are the only reasons he didn't get drafted. Had he been 6' 4" and been able to play decent defense against the talent that he would have seen in the NBA, he would have definitely gotten a shot with or without the cancer.

Being small for a SG and lack of defensive ability are exactly why he wasn't drafted.

Had he not had cancer, he'd have been drafted. Not with a first round pick, but late in the 2nd, he'd have been picked up. He can shoot just as well as Redick, but adds an extra 3-4 inches because of the nature of his fadeaway shot. Cancer is the reason he isn't in Redick's situation. He'd be a role player put in when they need a few good minutes to spell the starting SG. He'll never be an everyday starter, but neither is Redick. It's the life of a pure shooter.

100% nonsense.
