NOTORIOUS ‘BAMA BOOSTER FOUND DEAD

Logan Young, longtime Alabama football booster and the man at the center of the Albert Means recruiting scandal, was found dead at a Chickasaw Gardens home Tuesday morning. Very few details as of yet, but homicide detectives were present on the scene.

Well a bammer did shoot his own son after a bammer loss. But I sure hope there was no foul play. As much as I dislike bammer and LY. I hope he did not suffer and I feel for his family.

Can't believe I just read Roy Adams kinds words about Logan Young. This plus the Paris Hilton playing Mother Theresa in a movie might just constitute a sign of the apacolypse.

Is there is anyone on the planet who makes UT look worse by being associated with the university than Roy Adams? What a goof. He represents every bad stereotype associated with the South.

I can't disagree with that at all.

WOW!!! This sounds really bad. Here is a section that was taken from today's tennessean....

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - An Alabama booster convicted of bribing a high school football coach to get a top recruit for the Crimson Tide was found dead Tuesday in his Memphis home, and police were investigating it as a homicide.

Police hadn’t yet confirmed the body was that of Logan Young, but his defense attorney said it was the Alabama booster.

“We’re treating it as a mystery homicide,” Sgt. Vince Higgins said in a telephone interview.

He said officials assume the victim was Young but needed to use fingerprints and dental records to confirm the identity.

“Suffice it to say, there was quite a physical struggle in this and this individual was injured severely,” he said.

we have another thread on this with a link to Roacky Top News where Roy Adams posts (ordinarily a pay site so you better check it fast). Roy claims that Logan's son is the suspect.

I thought of Logan Young about the same as I think of Roy Adams. I think they are both a couple of old buffoons that give proof that you can love your football team a little too much. Their "feud" was ridiculous no matter who or what started it.

I'm not one for conspiracies since I saw the writing on the wall. Logan ruined Alabama football for a while. We're still seeing the effects and will see them til '07. And for that I'm not entirely sympathetic to see him go. But I am sorry to see him go in that fashion. Especially if it is at the hands of his own son. That punishment certainly did not fit his crime(s).

Actually, I thought the entire prosecution of Young was a waste of time and resources. It was essentially a victimless crime. Some prosecutors just can't resist the opportunity to get their names in the paper.

Got to agree - good to see a Tide fan that doesn't believe in the whole conspiracy thing.

Logan Young, who was convicted of multiple charges in 2005 that involved an Alabama recruit, was killed in a violent struggle.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A University of Alabama football supporter convicted of bribing a high school coach to get a top recruit was found dead in his home, police said Tuesday.

Police would not say how Logan Young, 65, died, but they were investigating it as a homicide and had no suspects or motive, said Sgt. Vince Higgins. The killing appeared to have happened overnight Monday.

"The nature of the attack was brutal," Higgins said. "The entire house is a crime scene."

Young was free while he appealed his 2005 federal conviction on money laundering and racketeering conspiracy involving the recruitment of defensive lineman Albert Means.

Means' recruitment led to an NCAA investigation and sanctions against Alabama in 2002, costing the school scholarships and bowl appearances.

Former high school coach Lynn Lang, who avoided jail time after pleading guilty to the racketeering conspiracy, testified that Young paid $150,000 to get Means to sign with Alabama in 2000.

The NCAA has said it believed Means was unaware his football talents were being brokered. Means transferred to the University of Memphis, where he finished his college career.

Young was sentenced in June to six months in prison, plus six months' home confinement and two years' supervised release.

His attorneys had argued against jail time because Young needed a kidney transplant and could not get proper medical care in prison. Final briefs in his appeal were to be filed July 14, according to court records.

Young, who was not an Alabama alumnus, claimed to be a friend of legendary Alabama coach Paul "Bear" Bryant and was the original owner of the Memphis Showboats of the USFL in the early '80s.

A Memphis attorney helping in a lawsuit stemming from the NCAA sanctions was attacked in his office and left unconscious in May 2004. Key documents were stolen, said Phillip Shanks, the attorney. No one was ever charged.
