Logan Young's Death Ruled as 'Accidental'
April 13, 2006 01:40 PM CDT

Memphis - Today, Memphis police announced the cause of death of Logan Young, the Memphis millionair who was found dead in his home Tuesday morning.

The announcement came early this afternoon that the cause of death was "blunt forced injury to head, due to a fall, with manner accidental." Initially, the Memphis police department was handling the case as a "mystery homicide" before the medical examiner was able to determine the cause of death.

The Alabama booster convicted in the "Student Pay for Play" scandal was found by his housekeeper Tuesday morning. Stay tuned to News Channel 3 for the latest information on this case.

I don't believe that one bit. There was talk that he was barely recognizable he was so brutally damaged. I think it was his boy.

I'm surprised the DA in Durham is not requesting a cross check with the Duke lacrosse team's DNA on this one.

nice post from Roy Adams on another board:

Conspiracy theorist will have a field day:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Logan Young was framed by wealthy UT boosters, using their influence with the "powers" in Memphis to wrongfully investigate, indict, and convict him, a virtous and innocent man!
2. Logan knew too much and with his money and investigative powers he hired, he was going to expose UT, boosters, Phil Fulmer.
3. Philip Shanks knew too much, that's why he was attacked in his office; this worked, as others who had promised to give damaging testimony regarding UT's collusion all of a sudden wouldn't cooperate, talk! Damaging files were taken.
4. UT arranged for Logan's death, making it appear that it was an accident.

Now you know. UT controls everything in Memphis so don't screw with UT or you may suffer the same fate!!

A further tidbit, this from the ABC affiliate in Mem....

Police Director Larry Godwin says Young fell, striking his head on a metal stair railing which resulted in his death.

Doesn't seem to jive with earlier reports of "blood everywhere",
and "the entire house is one big crime scene".

Or the "had to be identified thru dental records and fingerprints" statement. That must have been one loooooong flight of stairs!

Talk about bad Return on investment.

As far as all this pay for play goes - you are stupid to think that the majority of colleges DO NOT participate.
Yep, just not nearly as flagrant as in the past.

Could it be that he faked his own death to try and avoid prison? Maybe there was a whitewash and the person being covered for was Logan young himself. Surely he has enough cash to pay off the appropriate people. :dunno:

Now one of his attorneys claims that LY was actually supporting a married woman with all the cash withdrawals he made instead of paying the high school coach. Being the gentleman that he was, he refused to disclose this at his own trial and was willing to go to jail rather than out her!

I believe it to be true...Alabama's got the probation to prove it. But it's also true that these were "boosters" bidding for this kid. Roy Kramer, in his own admission in court transcripts, notified ALL schools EXCEPT Alabama that rogue boosters were doing this...they "reigned in" their boosters and Alabama was hung out to dry. This isn't "conspiracy speculation" it is fact...it's also ancient history and the playing field is approaching level again. :D

"Offered" is much different than "ponied up the cash".
Is it?...I was merely pointing out that Tenn was also involved in the bidding, as much as Alabama was, since y'all enjoy labeling Bama "cheaters". If not for Kramer's warning y'all could have been proud recipients of Mr. Means' services.

Just get over it and move on.

Lynn Lang's statement it not proof that Tennessee was involved in anything. He could hardly be considered a reliable or unimpeachable source.

i rumor i heard on the internet is that the death just ruled accidental. Apparently he fell down the stairs taking a salad and drink upstairs, suffered a head wound, and walked all over the house before dying. but its just a rumor

Not a rumor - it's the official position of the Memphis police per a press conference yesterday.

In the initial report they said his face was so brutally beaten he was unrecognizable and had to be identified through fingerprints.

I can't imagine this tumble down the stairs, followed by a stroll through my huge house, and not calling for help, after a fall that left me unrecognizable??? Anyone hear if this fact was just totally false or what?

That is exactly what I have been wondering. If it happened the way the police say it did, that was one heck of a fall.

I'm not sure that the above is what the police said -- they said something about needing a family member to ID him - the press may have run with this and it got exaggerated throughout the day. For example, I saw an interview with his neighbor and he was speaking as fact about how someone - probably the son - broke in, etc. etc. In other words, I don't think it took dental records or finger prints to ID him -- think about it -- they ID'd him before a coroner investigation. Dental records and finger prints aren't on the scene. I think this part was just exaggerated through story telling.

LY was in his 60's and in poor health. If he fell down the stairs, it probably caused quite a bit of bruising - you've probably seen how some seniors bruise pretty easily. Apparently, he wandered around the house leaving blood. When police arrived, they saw blood around the house, a bloody body that was bruised all over -- the press was probably there shortly there after begging for the story. MPD claims they treat all these crime scenes as murder scenes so that they get the highest level of investigation - murder until ruled out in other words. MPD probably just spoke too soon. The biggest mystery is why didn't he call for help -- he apparently went back upstairs and may even have taken shower. Two theories are that he had a subdural hematoma (sp?) and may not have realized how badly he was injured. The other is that he was drinking (against his probation) and didn't want it to be found out. He was also on blood thinners - contributing both to the amount of blood in the house and possible death from internal bleeding.

I'm not posting this to be ugly or make fun but look at this picture of LY -- I think it's understandable that if his face was bloody and/or bruised, it would be hard to identify.
