Back before the internet, I remember getting so much of my news on shortwave via BBC World Service. „This…..is London“ is forever seared into my Childhood and teenage memories

There are not many I envy, but you and your tour I do. Each generation needs to revisit Winston Churchill, both his mistakes and his victories--and the lost causes he championed.

By accident, came across an excellent film, "Young Churchill" (1972 - Simon Ward, Anne Bancroft, Robert Shaw, and Anthony Hopkins) I can heartily recommend for any of you Churchill fans.
Exactly. Quite a few historical figures did a lot of good, with some "bad" or human imperfection, mixed in there. It's a shame when historical revisionists claim that bits of frailty and error, outweigh the greater good. Another example would be Gen. Troy Middleton, much-decorated officer of multiple wars, and presiding over the desegregation of Louisiana State University. But someone took exception to the wording of one of his letters in the 50s or early 60s, and now his name is stripped off the LSU library. SMDH.

Churchill's Second World War series of books are a clinic on economical (yet super-informative) writing.
  1. The Gathering Storm (1948)
  2. Their Finest Hour (1949)
  3. The Grand Alliance (1950)
  4. The Hinge of Fate (1950)
  5. Closing the Ring (1951)
  6. Triumph and Tragedy (1953)

I recall a story about John Ward and his wife dining in France and someone said "BOTTOM" as they walked past.

I am about to subscribe to BritBox. There are so many classic British Comedies that I just have trouble finding otherwise. I am anxious to check out Fools and Horses and Dad’s Army. You folks really set the gold standard for comedy and for that this liberated colonist thanks you heartily
Love Father Brown.

I saw the title and thought this was about the Titans game in London in 2023. Titans- Ravens.

GO Vols!

Whew. When I saw the title I thought something might have happened to our beloved “London” Vol. glad that’s not the case.

Read Historical Fiction account of 'Charleston', spanning same lineage from Revolutionary to Civil War and Reconstruction.

I believe its what they based the Patriot movie from. No one person should have all the wealth, or the power.

I think the "Charleston" book was written by John Jakes (who also wrote the North and South trilogy which was later made into a few miniseries).

Remember reading it on an international flight years ago.

Interesting dude. I saw in the news he had died a while back.

Possibly the frogs hoping for one more set of "volunteers" to come bail them out? lol. just kidding

Oh you have lit the blue touch paper now by mentioned the dastardly French to an Englishman.

They still haven't forgiven us for Agincourt in 1415 when we spanked their bottoms and have done so ever since (its a bit like playing Kentucky every year). The only good thing about both World Wars was that in mainly fought on French soil. To sum up I would rather trust Jaws in my bath tub than a Frenchman.
