Longwood vs. Radford

I watched a some of Longwood's game against Radford and here are some of my impressions:

- We should be able to do what we want in the paint. They don't have anyone inside who can match Aidoo, BHH, or Fulky's height and athleticism on the offensive end; Uros will be able to do what he does cleaning the gathering misses on both ends.
- They swing the ball well on the perimeter, but they make some sloppy passes and do rely heavily on shot fakes. If we close out and our guards continue to defend at the level they've been playing and stay grounded like they're coached to do, it's going to be a long afternoon for the Lancers.
- They don't have anyone who can stay in front of Chandler or Zeigler, JJJ will be a nightmare match-up for them on both ends of the court.
- Longwood has only lost 1 game since the new year, but I do think they were over-seeded as a 14, just as we feel we've been under seeded.

No doubt their intensity and focus will be at a different level for the NCAA tournament. They've made history for their school and they would love nothing more than to shock the world with an upset, obviously, but in order for them to do that, they'll have to shoot the lights out of the gym (they're capable) and we will have to be ice cold; I believe the NCAA committee did us a favor by disrespecting us with our seeding. Let's feed the ball to Uros, get his offense, and confidence up. That'll only help going forward in the tourney. What's their tallest player?

Sorry but Uros ain’t dominating ANYONE down in the paint . He is a rebounder , nothing else .

Any of our big men have a chance to dominate in this specific game. BHH, Aidoo, Uros, Fulk. This will be different than an SEC game where we going up against strong big men.

When he gets 4 chances (rebound shoot, rebound shoot, rebound shoot, rebound shoot) from 2 feet he is making over 50% from the field! I'm glad he has found his role on this team, be an obstacle, defend the rim, block out, rebound, screen, keep feet on the floor, don't stick your hands in there. He is contributing every game now.

I am curious to see how these smaller schools handle the team speed, team athleticism and team defense of the SEC entries. I think they will be overwhelmed but we don't have long to find out. Big 10 teams better look out though, several of them didn't deserve a bid.

While none of our big men were anywhere close to Kentucky’s center, he was held in check by the host of Volunteer bigs and could not dominate the game. To me, in any game that’s a win, with our guard play which is outstanding! As a group, I’d put Chandler, Vescovi, and Ziegler up against anyones three guards, especially with the defensive abilities of JJJ.

The unfounded Uros hate for a role player getting 10-12 minutes a game continues to be a big head scratcher. It’s like some think he’s an underperforming 5star recruit. He’s probably playing pretty close to his natural talent level

If he were 6-11, everyone would just deal with the fact that Uros is what he is. But since he's 7-0, we expected something more like Kareem.

True on the bigs. Great to get OT fouled out w 3-4min to go. Could have ended differently. UK is athletic but pretty soft in the post without him. In both wins, our bigs have taken a committee approach to neutralizing him. He's phenomenal and the key to their team.

Uros shots 58% from the field. Tops on the team. I realize that it should be high because he shots from 5 feet in. Longwood has no one to match up with him. This is a game where he could get a double double if he plays enough. He’s going to have several inches and similar athletic ability to whoever guards him in this game.

It would be nice if we dominated them in the paint so BHH and Aidoo can gain some confidence going forward.

No one even knows where Longwood is. Sounds like an ABC sitcom. WGWTFA

On the offensive end, Uros is a very good passer. The guards are using him well to get space from their defenders. He’s also really good at sealing off and creating lanes to the rim. He also tips out missed shots that his teammates end up getting credited with the rebounds. He’s been filling a role perfectly. Most of his minutes are early while neither team is in the bonus shooting free throws. He wins most of the opening tips which often creates an advantage with an extra possession.

On the other end he’s doing a good job with the help defense. He moves pretty well for a 7 footer. He’s not just standing under the basket swatting away shots at the rim. He’s out blowing up screens and frequently defending the perimeter.

Posters that constantly trash Uros are just showing their ignorance.

I think you and I are on the same page with him. He has come as far as a player as anyone Barnes has coached at Tennessee, and is now a key cog for this team. I hope he continues to improve, but he has made himself an important piece already. He is not the same player we cringed constantly about in previous years.

I didn’t realize how many fans we have who don’t realize what Uros brings to this team. No he’s not a dominant offensive player. But he’s really good at what Barnes asks him to do and what this team needs. He frustrates the hell out of guys defensively and brings down a lot of big rebounds for us. It’s obvious how much he loves the game and loves this team. I’m very happy to have such a positive team guy who does exactly what he’s asked.

Do most folks not understand that the vast majority of folks 7’ tall are awkward and unathletic. Basketball is the only sport in which someone that tall can effectively participate and only if they are one of the few that height with the necessary athletic talent. It’s like our fan base sees 7’ and automatically equates one of the NBA types.

I think s/he is just speaking the truth. Uros should play much better offensively with his height advantage but he is uncoordinated and struggles to catch and finish @ the rim.

However, he is a solid rebounder and takes up space defensively and alters shots.
He’s a role player. Yes, we know he could produce more for us but he/she has posted the same thing 4-5 different times saying the same exact thing. We got what we got and some games he does really well for us.

He is certainly not the most athletic big. But he seems to have a good understanding of Barnes defensive philosophy and has good positioning for rebounding. He is a solid big man for us. He pretty much made Kessler useless in the auburn game. He deserves some credit.

Some folks don’t realize how valuable role players are. Especially if they never played the game at any level. GBO!

Yep, A lot just look to see who scores the most points, that's their measuring stick. People see a 6'9" or so HS player dunking at will but what they don't realize most of the time he's going against 6'3 ish center. P5ball ball there are tall unbelievable rim protectors on just about every team. I mean Aidoo crammed a dunk try down Tshbebe's throat and he was SEC MVP.

Well, it is Volnation after all. Expecting insight is wrought with disappointment.
