I like it. If we can get another big man or develop Yemi, I'd be happy seeing Maymon split duties at the 3/4 position.
I just want to see Maymon on the floor with two other big men. Would be pretty amazing and we'd own the glass in every single game!
my apologies i thought you were agreeing with the op that stated he thought maymon should start at SF next year, i thought thats what you were going with. out of curiousity though what 3 in this league would you feel wouldnt abuse maymon on offense? i just really feel that there arent many, if any 3's in this league that maymon would be able to keep up with for more than a play or 2. on top of that i dont see it being that big of an advantage for us on offense for reasons i stated earlier, and then on top of that i feel like your taking arguably our best post defender and rebounder and moving him away from the basket. IMO i just dont see any sort of situation in which we would benefit from this.
I think, at times, you sell Maymon short as it relates to his quickness and athleticism. Just because he weighs 260 lbs doesn't mean he is immobile. For a guy his size, he does a very good job keeping quicker players in front of him. He would have to improve his conditioning to play major minutes at the SF.
I think he could guard Kidd-Gilchrist effectively moreso than Beal or Taylor because MKG is not much of an outside threat, therefore he only needs to guard against the drive and let MKG shoot from outside. That's where you want him playing.
He is very mobile and quick, for a 5 IMO. Woolridge looks fast at the 5 too, but there's a reason ccm won't play him more at the 3, he's too slow to play the 3 on D against most teams. As you said some guys you could but the majority of the time it wouldn't work.
My main reason is your taking away our bigger strength. Our biggest advanbge is pot presence both in offense and defense IMO. He is our best rebounder right now and sliding him to the 3 hurts that, you dont want 3 guys crashing and their 3 running out, that a fast break all night. If we bring in a guy like Mitchell in the post someone just so talented they have to play then maybe you work on maymons quickness but I only think he can b so quick with his build. If just be very surprised to see him at the 3 for extended minutes next year, nevermind starting there, maybe a spurt of 5 minutes at most IMO.
I agree about the rebounding aspect. However, he can control his positioning offensively to stay effective as a rebounder. Defensively, again, it would be situational. Using MKG again; he is one of UKs best rebounders, so defensively, Maymon will be in the paint because MKG will be in the paint. So, you aren't rendering him useless on the defensive glass guarding a SF like MKG. You're not going to ask Maymon to guard perimeter-oriented SFs like Beal, Taylor, Tatum, etc., because it makes him less effective.
