From talking to people who should know, I'm thoroughly convinced Brownell would have gotten the Indiana job if Crean had turned them down.Speaking of the Horizon League, Brad Brownell, who will be out to a bigger program next year, has completely turned around Wright State and is looking for his third straight 20 win season.
Mercer is making a habit of that. They picked off Southern Cal in the opener last year. Their new coach, Bob Hoffman, will do a good job for them.
Alabama has too much talent to be losing games like that. Gottfried might want to get to work on his resume.Having seen them twice this year, it still blows my mind that they could even stay in the gym with a rebuilding SEC team. Mercer is undersized, and has looked slow against two D-II opponents.

They're still #2 in their own city. Tough to draw in this economy if you're not the main attraction. That was hands down the case. Brownell was in strong contention for the job, and you could just tell the excitement in his face during the process while he tried to deny and play down the rumors. The local media knows that he is gone after this year, and respectively so as he has turned the program into a winner, but fans still don't fill the seats. They even gave away free tickets to the home opener against Western Illinois, and they only drew 6,500.
