Knoxville is 3 hours from both Nashville and the ATL.

Its not 3 hours. I've lived a big part of my life in Chattanooga after moving from Knoxville - its 2-2.5 hours from Chattanooga to Atlanta... and 1.5 hours from Chattanooga to Knoxville.

You are right. It is 3 and a half hours from Knoxville to Atlanta.

But I'm sure that extra 30 minutes means a ton to those who are rooting for the closest team.

Why would I do that? There are plenty of alumni that live outside of East TN.

Well, alumni have the required "connection."

But, Vols fans in Nashville, who didn't attend UT, are going to have to start rooting for Vandy football.

I live in Knoxville. I see it on a daily basis. No Titans hats or gear around when they win 4 games, or hell even 8. They win 13 and suddenly everyone is a 'huge' fan.

This statement is as much an inditement of vols fair weather fans as it is titans fair weather fans. If you wera seeing more blue than orange its likley because the fairweather fans left the orange in the closet because of the way the vols were playing.

only alumni can be fans?

Yeah - one of the stupidest arguments I've heard. My Uncle lived in Knoxville for 3/4ths of his life but didn't graduate from UT. He was a bigger UT fan than 95% of Vol fans and donated more money to Tennessee than a majority of the fans too.

Thank goodness Marvin Harrison goes by that method.

I'm not a huge Harrison fan. I want him to do well because he plays for the Colts, but other than that I couldn't care less about him personally. He's a choker. Always disappears in the playoffs.

If we took out the non-alumni with those "connections"... Neyland stadium wouldn't even be half full for a lot of the games. Bye bye money.

Yeah, but at least it'd be half-full of people who are legitimate UT fans....not just bandwagon non-alumni, who should probably be cheering for some other team within a few more miles of their homes.
