His perspective has to be based on his own experience. He feels he was dumped too early and didn’t want to be the purveyor in this instance. It was vexing but not a mistake if his extra chance results in letting her go and hiring someone to reestablish the program. I believe he wants a legacy of being a great AD. That requires him to take care of ALL the sports programs. On the other hand, that extension allowed her to recruit, so that now, whoever comes in next will not find the cupboard bare (unless there's a mass exodus from the roster).
Seems like a point Phil would have picked up from his unique perspective of the UT football program.
Best case scenario; Holly decides for the good of her team to retire early. That said, most likely she will be back next year because we are not paying a buyout for a women’s basketball coach.
Giving Holly an extension has been Fulmer’s biggest misstep as AD.
The extension was one of Fulmer's best moves as AD.....He wasnt going to fire her right after being hired AD and her having a top rated recruiting class coming in. He gave her an extension which gave the illusion that she was a stable coach and lowered her buyout which makes it easier to fire her this year.
I totally disagree. AA players aren't coming to Tennessee because they want to be Coached by H.Warlick. The Lady Vols have a great history and are always playing nationally televised basketball games. Tennessee will get top rated recruits as long as ESPN has them in heavy rotation. E. Westbrook said the deciding factor in her picking Tennessee was when she sat down in TBA and saw all of the retired jerseys and though her jersey would be a great addition. Giving Warlick and extension might've cost us E.Westbrook. Players also know that if the HC gets fired the Vols will have good options to pick from . Giving Warlick an extension was unnecessary. The lower buyout was probably offset by the drop in attendance.
Professional respect all around. As soon as Warlick is fired or takes another job in the athletic department, everything gets ramped up. IF Walz is a viable hire by us it’ll be double or triple the pressure going into the Final Four...and he’s already declining questions. Why doesn’t Fulmer pull the trigger now?? He waiting for his replacement for the LV to get eliminated first before announcing there will be a coaching change?? Holly should have already announced she would resign as soon as their season was over. What’s the hold up here??
